The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

No issue selecting seats for the 2 QF flights, used e-ticket number to go to JAL site to try and select seats for GMP-HND and even though they have my QFF so know I'm WP, no matter which seats I try to select it refuses to save (and almost every seat is available). Any ideas?
You could potentially try MH MMB. I can't remember if you can use it for itineraries without any MH flights, but I have definitely successfully chosen a JL seat via MH's MMB before.

Thank you. I didn’t realise that there was a certain fare class to earn points. Both flights were S class. I guess more research is required next time I book. 🥴
This is good to know.... Just had a similar issue and came hunting on here to see if I could trouble shoot an answer... Aaaaand here it is

Is it normal for EF to show U0 but a reward flight being available?

I was calling QF to try and release an economy Y (X) ticket for a flight in 2months time but the agent just said - oh there's a business class available normally. It wasn't there 1 week ago and EF shows U0 as I pulled it to check which flight gave me the highest odds.

I've posted up this in a different thread. I've seen this before.

@JohnM had a theory that this might happen if you EF location is set to the US (or something). However, I saw several examples of U0 yet QF showing award availability.

The EF flight availability is what they are showing as available to the market, including [generally] to OW and other partners, but QF also have sub-classes of fares that they make award inventory available from, that is only accessible to QFF members. We saw the biggest example of this during the big apology dump of award seats in the middle of last year. Heaps of options on QF's website, but patchy alignment with what you could find on EF, so you needed to search both to be sure. This is probably true to some extent year round, but unless you're very close to the right QF operations people, I don't know that you'll get a definitive answer on where/how it is done.

Cheers,
Matt.

Q1. I recently flew Sydney to Heathrow on a Qantas ticket on flights QF8xx_ on Emirates planes. No points or status credits have been added to my account so far. Will I receive status credits and points from Qantas for these flights?

Q2. My Heathrow to Sydney flight was on QF2 BUT Qantas sent me an email saying they had cancelled the flight at 10:30pm UK time the day before departure. By chance I picked up the email and called the Qantas Call Centre. They were very helpful and booked me on Emirates (EK) flights. On the original QF2 booking I would have received QF status credits and points. What should I receive for the EK flights ?

Welcome to AFF!

The SCs are the same for QF flights via DXB or SIN, regardless of whether they're operated by QF or EK (as long as you have it under a QF code). When operated by EK they may take longer to appear.

If they rebooked you on EK, make sure you flew under QF codes (I'm almost certain they would have), if not you can apply for Original Routing Credit (ORC) that will grant you the missing points.

Thank you. Aprreciate the advice.

Emirates flights may take a few daysto be credited, so you may have to wait before using the online missing points claim form. But as @justinbrett says, use the wording "Original routing credits" as what you're requesting to be credited.

SC earning and points earning can be different if 2 QFxx_ flight numbers EK operated LHR-DXB, DXB-SYD vs QF2 LHR-SYD (1 flight number QF operated)

You may be eligible for UK261 cash compensation - reimbursement in addition to the EK flight
What time did you arrive is SYD on EK vs the QF2 scheduled time?

Thanks for the comment. Arrived about 2 hours after QF2 time

That used to be the case but the points tables now make it the same, SYD-LHR=SYD-SIN-LHR=SYD-DXB-LHR.

Anyone know what booking class MH flights booked via QF site would fall under (aka would it earn SC) for flights such as MEL -(QF)- SIN -(MH)- KUL in economy sale fares?

Booked as MH flight number? Why book via QF web site?
QF do not show fare booking class before booking. Are threads on this QF failing.
SIN-KUL is a short flight, so will not earn much no matter what economy fare booking class.
Be *careful*

Edit
Looked on QF web site 28 Aug. Economy saver 40 SC. Click on the price --> expands
If you look for just SYD-SIN will be able to determine the SC/points from the MH flight
Should be able to do the same for your sale fare (less SC?)

Hey all, in 2 weeks time I’m travelling on JAL - SYD to HND, HND to LHR.

All booked on the same ticket, through Qantas Classic Rewards.

Wondering if anyone knows if I’ll be able to check my bags in Sydney all the way through LHR? Have 7 hours in HND so hoping to duck into Tokyo for some ramen 🍜

Dumb question:
I completed an order through the online mall. The points are sitting in Qantas shopping as pending.
However a day later the order was cancelled by the retailer for what i assume was a lack of stock.

I know it says cancelled orders and whatnot don't get but what's the process? Do you get told or do they just vanish?

I have recently minted Qantas Club status as I have made PC+. Looking to book SYD-sin on Awards on AA or AS points. There's option to go via MEL, PER, or BNE. Which QF international business lounge is best between the 3 cities? Thank you.
