Considering these folks are going through their 5th flood in a year, I find the comments in poor taste to be frank, smiley or no smiley, the residents on the Mary are doing it hard and unlikely to have the luxury to be able to choose what they eat over the past month and year.

Agree. I've been surpised by some of the comments on here and Facebook lately... jokes or not, targeting people's appearance isn't cool.

Ok I'm sorry if I upset the lungfish ( which is the only spotty one as far as i can see but i only have a small phone), I would never target someone who had a genuine handicap rather than a lack of self discipline.

So if by chance I decided not to employ fat people as in the past I have found them generally lazy and work shy and that's not the image I want to present for my business is that a problem?

I'm guessing it is to some people.

But I am generally sorry for the residents that have been flooded , I have myself and I know it's a nightmare

Well it is raining again in QLD and Gympie has flooded once again.this picture on the local news and in the courier mail just got my attention-a lungfish rescued from gympies CBD-

The lungfish lady got a spot on the Qld bulletin on 7 tonight.
I don't know that most girls her age would care enough (or have the pluck) to pick the creature up because the bitumen was cutting its flesh. Showed her putting it back into the water.
Good story all round, drron, thanks for posting the photo. (Nice new avatar btw but I can't see the bird well enough to make it out - what is it, please?)

I hope I never have to lose all my possession in a flood.

TV's and Lounges can be replaced but Photo's can never be replaced.

They are a bugger to attempt to save after a flood. You need to rinse the flood water off them, remove the silt, and then let them dry. Depending on the age, the "ink" (for want of a better, all-encompassing term) may not be very stable, and you shouldn't try to rub mud off the photo, as you may end up wiping it away. Negatives in plastic pockets are also problematic, as water can get caught in the pocket and it will erode the negatives. Also don't leave them in wet processing packets, the paper will adhere to the photos, and will be a bugger to remove. And don't leave the photos in piles, they will stick to one another and become impossible to unstick.
I remember having doonas or sheets spread out on the garage floor drying out hundreds of photos in 2009, and in the end just having to say "oh well" to so many of them, as I couldn't deal with them quickly enough, and we went OS four days after the flood.

Digitising, with cloud/off-site non-floodable storage is a good idea for precious photos.

I was always told you cant trust a skinny chef.:p

Or a skinny food critic? :p

I had a rather hillarious conversation along the same lines with Matt Preston in Hobart last year.

Yeah, he has always been really friendly whenever I have seen him. We had a nice chat that time in HBA until somoene recognised him and a crowd descended on the area. I could keep eating, but he had to start playing the celebrity part.

Lucky to be sitting in SIN but without my luggage and golf clubs and something tells me they are not going to make it in BNE tomorrow morning on the same flight as me. Hopefully they will arrive in SYD by Saturday morning.

Mostly my fault and partly lounge's fault in KUL.

Arrived in KUL Sattelite terminal. I went to Golden lounge, showed my boarding pass and they read out that I was on MH785 to SIN. I don't know KUL very well as the last time I was here was in 2004. They did not mention that H4 departure gate was back in the main building.

Anyway I checked departure board constantly and flight was OPEN, checked and checked and flight still OPEN until I noticed FINAL CALL. Made my way over to main building with train and then to H4 and I was already offloaded :( as they had made several pages but none in the Sattelite Golden lounge.

The next flight was extremely full and lounge staff went out of their way to go to check-in and try and get me on flight. I went though an agonising wait to find out if I can get on flight. Lucky that I could get on that flight. My bags though could not make it and hopefully will make connection in SIN but I am not hopeful.

Stupid me I should have checked with reception if flight was boarding when display board was only showing gate OPEN. While I was waiting in Golden lounge in main terminal someone came in with a departure for gate C37 which is sattelite terminal and was told they can use lounge in sattelite terminal. Oh well.

True. Once our bags made it to MAD a good few hours before we did. We traveled QF/BA - BNE-SYD-BKK-LHR-MAD......the bags went on EK - BNE-DXB-MAD

The notation from the lounge staff at KUL usually make a point of your forthcoming flight, & if any issue or delayed requirement ideally personally advised.
Wish you a pleasant remaining journey..

Hope it works out.

Just goes to show that no matter how old you are, there's still a lot to learn.

Having travelled quite a bit overseas (I hesitate to say "a lot", because that probably insults a good majority of the board), I know that I've been in lounges which don't make boarding calls, so I often keep an eye on the departures board. If it's 45 minutes before departure and nothing seems to be boarding, I always ask.

Being proactive on my own has got me out of what might've been the weeds more than once.

My parents are embarking on a long trip later this year, and they will be going through airports they have never been through before, and some fairly large, multi-terminal ones. I'm a little scared for them as they have to know how to transit through terminals, find airport lounges, then find the gate, and they can't rely on boarding calls. Hopefully they'll manage!
