The totally off-topic thread

My parents are embarking on a long trip later this year, and they will be going through airports they have never been through before, and some fairly large, multi-terminal ones. I'm a little scared for them as they have to know how to transit through terminals, find airport lounges, then find the gate, and they can't rely on boarding calls. Hopefully they'll manage!
Parents are a different story.

My dad loves lounges especially if the variety of food is good. He loved the round the world trip he did with me in 2009 and recounted the routing to a many a relative with a smile on his face. With his age now it will not be easy so a more direct routing is the only solution.

Mum is a different story. Does not like doing anything on her own. Does not care about lounges as she hardly eats or drinks during the trip. Wants to get to next gate as soon as possible and will more than likely look for company to spend time with at airport.

And they will both blame me if things go wrong.

I heard a loud bang this morning at 10.30am with no sound of breaks screeching. My elderly neighbour reversed out of her drive and crashed into the fence of our neighbour across the road. The fence is one of those 7 foot concrete bollard ones with the same height steel bars with remote opening. I cannot imagine what speed she must have been doing in her small car but she took out a 7" high concrete block. Her car is a write off. She now thinks she won't be driving anymore. But more seriously she could have killed someone. She seems fine. But stressed. Hell, I would be too. Her sons aren't reporting it police as they are saying the damage is under $300. Yeah right. Maybe to her car. But that fence was just built six months ago. More like $20k

She definitely shouldn't be driving without a full medical work up.
You are right, the consequences of this could have been the death of a pedestrian and/or herself.
In NSW the relevant form for reporting incidents like this is below
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/publicationsstatisticsforms/downloads/45070802.pdf
I'm not sure which state you are based in but I would find out if a similar system exists and report it yourself.

Anyone know what happened to Autumn?

Left a couple of weeks ago at it was summer and I have returned in Winter....

John, come down to Victoria, off to play at Drouin tomorrow - forecast of sunny, 29 degrees.

I'm in SA and agree she shouldn't be driving. I've been thinking that for some time. I've warned my (adult) children to watch out for her. I've driven behind her and she has classic tunnel vision and also, weirdly, a lead foot. Once she sees she has a clear path ahead she plants the foot. But doesn't have the wherewithal to react if something untoward happens. Her sons pretty much agree she shouldn't be driving and I reiterated that today when I saw them.

Gosh I'm going to hate being old.

Just a side note. When [a person] hit me last year in SA I think the police said the limit for reporting was like $1000 or $2000. And instead of call them you had 24 hours or so to visit a cop shop to report.

Also you do have the option to ring the police yourself and report a dangerous driver. I reported some clown who drove through the park at the end of the street recently.

Ahhhhhh there is nothing that says London better than youths wandering the streets at 7:30 AM drinking cans of Carlsberg. It is very disappointing, what happened to Bass, or John Smiths, or Tetley? *Sigh*

I remember the days when I rebelled against the screw cap.......Oh, how I don't miss the cork!

It's such a drag travelling with a wine opener to the countries that haven't uet embraced the screw top.

(The real reason I don't do carry on only) ;)

I did tell them they should report it. I think the neighbours whose brand new fence got demolished will anyway as they have to claim through insurance. They just moved in to their newly built house around July last year. Cost $1.3 million to build. And I hate it. But that's beside the point.

Yes. If she drives again I will report her. I have to. Too many kids in the area. I've taken a photo of the damage. Her car is a write off so it'll be towed away. I think it's a good thing as all the neighbours were involved this morning lifting her car off the brick pylon.

The wife has just got a new kitchen fortunately I managed to convince her that it needed a nice Miele wine cooler, 143 bottles 3 temp zones nice, celebrated by putting a couple of cases of good French red in it complete with corks.

Might have to drink all of it to get over the $11499 oven she has ordered. Apparently it's self cleaning! I mean really come on I could pay someone to come round every 3 months for the next 5 years to clean a normal oven and still. be in profit :(

Welcome to London bridge. It doesn't help that there is a pretty dodgy nightclub down the road (cable). Seeing what spills out of there is interesting to say the least.

Yeah fosters and carlesberg are the usual suspects. Probably cheapest at the off licence.

It's late at night. Did you say an $11,000 oven? Good heavens.
