Yes but at 9 down. Didn't really change the result. After day 2 they were always going to lose and nothing was in their control.

Yeah, but there is something seriously wrong if your 9 down on the first day and the other side go on to make 500 in their first innings.

There's something going wrong when the selectors keep changing the team willy-nilly....

Perhaps the selectors shouldn't be so selective?

I still am amazed at the under-representation of people from a sub continental background in the ranks of Australian cricket. Every other cricket playing nation doesn't have an issue with it...

I hear South Africa is the place to find some good cricketers. :p

The only good cricketers when playing in the sub continent are the locals, take them overseas and it all changes, stats as of Jan:

In Australia
Of 37 matches, Australia have won 29 and India five Tests.
Of 10 matches, Australia have won nine and Sri Lanka none.
In South Africa
Of 15 matches, SA have won seven and India two.
Of 10 matches, SA have won eight and Sri Lanka one.
In England
Of 49 matches, England have won 23 and India four.
Of 13 matches, England have won six and Sri Lanka two.

Which only proves that each country prepares pitches that suit their home grown bowlers.

Found out today that my job will be vanishing in the next couple of months. Lack of funding means the institute is 'missing' $2 million from its budget. Bit of a downer. Got a job interview Friday so fingers crossed!

I hope it goes well, and if not, that there is something else around the corner.

Sorry to hear that news.

Bugger. At least you have quite a few weeks to look for something else.

I can see now why they were in a hurry to get rid of Ricky.

Ricky wasn't one of the best captains but he had a great team around him. So many times he seemed to lack a real understanding of strategy the way he used his bowlers and in field placing. His batting was fine.

If only! :p At least 10% of the institute is out the doors.

My contract ends in just over a week, though I've been promised an extra 2-3 months...we'll see. Luckily I've already paid for my Europe trip or I'd be worried!

And he would have been fine on this tour as well.

I cannot believe we are placing all our faith on 3 out of 4 top order batsmen averaging in the 30's and the other one just over 40 average.

Oh well. Hope something starts going right....

It all unravelled pretty quickly. Too many versions of the game now and there isnt as much money in the traditional version. So players prefer the short versions. If the Sri Lankans had the use of Malinga in the Test series then perhaps even those tests would have been different.
