With the way learning has been dumbed down... I think the question would be rewritten today as:

A train is leaving.Brisbane central station. It is timetabled to arrive at Cleveland exactly seventy minutes after departure. How long is the scheduled train journey from Brisbane central to Cleveland?

Our education started being dumbed down as soon as teachers weren't allowed to grade students according to their ability but according to their self esteem.

It's a trick web question? :) About 60 mins?
Journey planner | TransLink

Catch train BRCL Brisbane City to Cleveland to Cleveland station
  • 5.46pm Depart Central station, platform 2
  • 6.46pm Arrive Cleveland station, platform 2
  • Travel time: about 1 hour

But point made!

Someone had to look up the times didnt they. Lol. There's no trick, I just estimated the journey time.

Naaa - just saying that the inter-web has made it too easy for many things. Don't know something? Ask Google (or Chrome or ... (insert search engine of choice here)).... :)

An aircraft arrives at Gold Coast 45 minutes late and you miss the hourly bus service by 10 minutes. How late are you going to be getting to Central station assuming all bus/train services are then on time?

A well-written and entertaining read on the dumbing-down of Britain's education system along with the NHS, law and order, politicians, etc is Simon Carr's The Gripes of Wrath.

They are giving away slabs of Adelaide Oval as it is bring redeveloped. Queues of people lined up this morning to get five small slabs saying they had scored a piece of history of Ashes series etc etc.

ummm, nup. The entire oval was dug up perhaps five years ago because of a grass disease. That seems to have been an inconvenient truth as it wasn't mentioned today.

I did enough scrubbing of the Adelaide oval turf off Mr Pushka's whites to never want to see it again.

For those who are mathematically minded, or have kids that would like to give it a go, here's the problem:

Based on the picture that I've seen shared on FB a few times, my answer is PURPLE!!!

Clearing out some old boxes I found some old Australian Mathematics Competition question papers from my old school days. Spotted a problem which I couldn't work out for the life of me for many years after that paper was used. Thought I'd give it a crack and thank goodness - I solved it.

Alright, very small pointless victory there, but.......
I was bored on the train and I believe I have managed to solve it in my mind in a few minutes. I am sure there is some formula involved but it was much easier to do it long hand using trial and error.

Another test match and another stuff up by Australia.

I thought everything was back on track with Australia's first innings but the bowling attack showed their mettle again. Attack? Hmmm.

Seriously how many more times does Hughes need to get out cheaply before realising that Sheffield Shield is his calling?

P HUGHES not out 53

The food, the heat, the smells, the water and the pitches make India a difficult place for Australia to play and win cricket matches.
India is outplaying our team and I think that is good that the Australian team get shown a cricketing lesson or two before the English series.

Now that is a copout. I doubt they drink anything bar bottled water, they certainly have dealt with heat and humidity before, their diet and food would be strictly regulated.

Australia just has a cough cricket team... sorry.

You may be very well right on your last statement but the rest is a little off.
I live around the corner from the Physio on the last tour of India-everybody without exception got the runs.pity that could not happen when batting.

I well remember a talk from Freddy Trueman about an Indian tour.First day,England to bowl,Brian Statham to start.Thrown the ball and he walks back past the umpire, starts accelerating as he passes mid on,at full speed as he passes the sight screen attendant and back to the dressing room.Freddie was deputed to retrieve the ball which was still in Statham's hand as he sat on the throne.

The Australians will do better in England. It's all about the pitch and not playing spin well. And India has spinners in abundance. Also British batsmen won't take the team apart the way the Indians did in their first innings.

English...errr......well...errr.....with a South African lilt!!! :p

Ok Ok Ok, they play for the MCC then. Maybe us Aussies could learn from doing that. Although, we wouldnt want to go to way of our NBL teams with all the US imports.

I believe thats called the Home Team Advantage. In this day and age where test match cricket has become quite sterile and clinical, I'm all for anything that adds a bit of sport to it (and no Baseba...I mean T20 is not the answer)
