Yep, Air Asia X priced in at 120 per person return... will see what my accompanying travelers think of the idea.

Beware of the fact that AK uses the low cost tin shack at KLIA... it's not a v pleasant experience. And options to the city are either the bus or taxi. The train is connected to the main terminal which is about 10km away. If TR and 3K use the main terminal, I'd go with these options.

edit: TR also uses aforementioned tin shack, as well as the budget terminal at SIN (though the latter is heaps nicer). AFAIK 3K uses both T1 at SIN and the main terminal at KUL.

...considering the flight is barely enough time for an OJ.

There's always enough time for an OJ :) (just kidding)

SYD-CBR is only 55 minutes, but for some reason (and this is irrespective of aircraft - 734 or DH8), there always seems to be time to serve at least a cake and coffee and clear it away on time.

Also, I did a dummy booking on AK (from Singapore) and it seems you can prepurchase meals. Don't know if they were joking (for such a short route), since I'd like to see someone eat Nasi Lemak in full in 55 minutes (probably less!). Perhaps the meals are real small ones... (after all, it was priced at only SGD 3.00.....)

What did you expect for a tin shack? And how bad can it be? (Unless you're factoring in the size of the shed + the humid weather + ....)

Never used the new KL LCCT, but the photos I've seen sort of remind me of the old Terminal 2 (formerly domestic, then only SIN/KUL sector) of Subang Airport. (Terminal 3 was the Malay domestic terminal at Subang before the new KLIA at Sepang was built. Both Terminals 2 and 3 were all airstairs, as is the new LCC if I'm not mistaken. Aaaah...the old days of MH tarmac buses, or the umbrellas they gave you if you walked across the tarmac in the rain....)

3K at the main terminal, eh? I wonder how that impacts on their fares.....

It does seriously bite though that the LCCT is not on the KL Ekspres line. Perhaps best course of action is bus it to KLIA main then take the train from there?

And the horrendous crowds....

"Everyone can fly"... and they all do, at the same time!

I'd personally pay more to avoid that monstrous scrum of humanity.

Note that for 3 passengers on a day-trip (i.e. assuming no/little luggage) the taxi is probably similar price to the train anyway. Train is MYR35 each while a teksi is likely to be around MYR100 total.

Actually, with 3 people it might be worth paying for a limo to town. It's about MYR35 each way to use the KLIA Ekspress (sic). Limo/cab won't cost that much more.

edit - NM beat me to it. :p

Limos, when pre-ordered through the major hotels, normally run at about MYR200 from the airport.

If I am travelling alone or with one other person, I normally just use KLIA Ekspress and Teksi from Sentral. But if we have three or more work colleagues together we arrange a limo.

MYR110 with the Westin. Or 130. Anyway it's around there and I don't recall it being anywhere near 200.

What about travel time? (i.e. time of KLIA-KUL city in limo/teksi vs. train?)

Of course, one makes a small allowance for sacrificing time sometimes to travel in a limo. Unless you get a driver who is a boring conversationalist.

Not too sure when Jetstar are moving to a more day trip friendly 3 flights a day between SIN-KUL (currently one in the afternoon but moving to 2 morning and 1 evening flight), but might be worth a go. They also use the main terminals rather than the low cost terminals.

The MYR200 was arranged by Renaissance Hotel. Hmm, perhaps I should check what rate the CP charge for next visit with Mrs NM? 110-130 is very reasonable.

depends on time of day. Busy morning or afternoon peak and the drive through KL itself will be slow. And depends on where you are going. If final destination is Sentral (i.e. KL Hilton or Le Meridian, then train will almost always be fastest.

But if you then need to transfer to a Teksi, then it can become marginal. And there is the hassle of changing from train to Teksi. The new Klang Valley freeway is generally fairly fast. So if the fare diff is low (for me, I would say less than MYR30) and expected time diff is low (say less than 10 mins), I would go for limo as first option, then Teksi, then train. Though I have used the train probably 15 times, limo twice and teksi twice.

This thread is becoming rather ON topic. (talking about travel)

But it's not talking about any particular topic so it is still OFF topic.

In any case, your post is OFF topic (your post is not about travel).

(and if you wish - this post isn't either :p)

EDIT: just realised that I might be being ON topic because this post talks about this thread being OFF topic.

What's people having for dinner tonight?

I'm home alone - need to decide quick smart as its approaching 7pm.

Should I oven my frozen McCains Pizza which I bought 3 for $10 last week? or should I go healthy and eat my relatively healthy Weight Watchers frozen dinner?

Presented with a choice like that it would be pizza for sure ! :)
But i had healthy chicken and salad for lunch.
