I noted you turned off Norton's phishing filter; did you turn off the phishing filter built into IE? Just a suggestion.... clear all the cookies and try again.
I think I will leave IE phishng filter on for now. I tried turning IE protected mode off and I lost the ability to create a new tab and had to create a new window each time.

I have the latest updates to Vista and IE7. I think it is Norton 360 causing all the problems by slowing down the tab/window when it needs to open. When I managed to post a few times on AFF last night I could not use that window again and had to open a new window and go back to AFF website.

If you are thinking of doing it as an SC run or something, the timetables will be against you.

I think he means just for the day, e.g. like a person living in London doing a Paris day trip dealie. Not an SC run.

Quite easy to get SIN-KUL so many times in the day as far as timetables are concerned. Of course, it's not exactly dominated by ow by any means. I can't remember how long SIN-KUL is on the top of my head, but you'll also need to build in time on the train between KUL airport (Sepang) and Kuala Lumper city itself - this is probably about 1-2 hours give or take (altogether for the day). After that - depends on what you want to do. But you'd probably want to make it a long day if possible, or overnight it.

I have sometimes wondered given the whole hanging around the airport thing, getting from KUL to the city etc, if it isn't just quicker to catch a bus between the two cities.

Anyway, I was talking from a OneWorld perspectice. Plenty of SQ or MH options between the two cities.

Is it worth doing a day trip to KUL? Is it feasible, and easily doable?

Certainly; as I mention in the following thread:
In March next year:
  • 8:10PM Singapore (SIN)
  • 9:15PM Kuala Lumpur (KUL)

  • 8:35PM Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
  • 9:40PM Singapore (SIN)

PER-ADL has 590, 668, 592, 584 and 810
ADL-PER is more stable with 593, 587, 585, 595 and 599

Well, here's one:

The last flight on some days on the BNE-PER leg is QF767. (I took that flight myself in mid-August)

Guess what kind of aircraft runs that route. (no prizes for the answer)

That idea doesn't work for QF777 a MEL-PER number :)

I would be looking for the cheapest option for 3 PAX, happy to bus (or other) if it's cheaper than flying. It's more of a "FYI" kind of trip, possibly with some shopping as it may be better in KL than SIN given the exchange rates.

Spot on... not an SC run.

Already have 3 nights booked and paid for (paid when the SGD was 1.3 ) at the Fairmont (formerly known as the Raffles Plaza), which looks very nice. So would be a long day trip...

Hire a car! Drive over early in the morning and return early evening.

Have done a bit more research, and at 5 hours each way... there's no way that'll be happening in a day especially given I've never been to KUL before. Next time maybe.....

Yes, it is probably a bit far for a day trip, and I also would not want to be driving around KL! And that is after you figure out which lanes are the cash lanes on the toll roads getting to KL.

Plenty of business people do KL for a day-trip from SIN. But can't do it on OneWorld (JL) flights unless staying overnight.

So if willing to fly with SQ or MH (or possibly AirAsia) you could easily make a nice KL sightseeing day. Then just use regular public transport (trains, monorail etc) to get to KL Tower, KLCC, China Town, Bukit Bintan area etc.

Will float the idea with SWMBO... it would make sense for us to do it the first day we arrive, as JQi gets us in around 6am. I wonder if we could just chance it and buy a return ticket when we actually arrive at the airport...

Unless I'm looking in the wrong places, both MH and SQ are only quoting fully flexible fares.. and the total price for 3 adults is more than our JQi PER-SIN-PER! ($300/person inclusive of taxes) $900 all in isn't bad for 3 PAX

Gotta love those 6 hour sales they have when they launch a new route.

Will be my second time flying a JQ brand and first time flying JQi. The first time I flew JQ was also a launch sale, $99 return PER-MEL-PER including taxes.

Up until recently SIN-KUL was operated under a JSA between SQ and MH, and apart from the odd 5th freedom carrier the govts of both countries restricted rights to SQ and MH - so effectively a duoopoly as only full fares were available on the route. They've recently opened up a little and the JSA has been disbanded, in light of ASEAN's project to liberalise air routes between member states. Now there are special fares every now and again, and some SQ flights have gone MI - avoid those if you want *A miles. There are also some LCC (3K, TR and AK) options on the route, which might be worth checking out considering the flight is barely enough time for an OJ.

In general fares on the route are still not v competitive considering most of the traffic is either corporate, govt officials or connecting pax.
