The totally off-topic thread

Is there some kind of AFF competition I'm not aware of where the person who starts the most threads gets some sort of prize?

None that I am aware of, however if a subtopic in a thread deserves a thread of its own or a subsequent thread is started when the topic is being discussed elsewhere, a split will result to put that thread worthy topic into its own area.

But your UK store doesn't carry this book so it seems like it isn't as good as it could be. ;)

And any serious online shopper from Australia knows exactly how to shop from the USA store for goods that aren't available for normal shipping here. ;)

'cept shopping from UK (as I live there... ) seems to be good enough for me, no need for USA unless electronics related  *hugs his Bose QC15 headphones*

They are $299 on the US website (my they are big things) - price on the UK site for comparison?

China Southern Boeing 787 inaugural flight on 07JUN13 remains in jeopardy due to weather (visibility) condition in Beijing.

According to Airline route this is the second attempt after yesterdays cancellation due weather, must have bought the VFR avionics pack thinking it meant Very Fine Radios!

Feel free to move as I'm not sure if there's a thread related to my comment, but...

Was reading about VA's 'Club' and how empty it is and how much staff and resources they have on it, and calls for Platinum lounges being a better idea, and had to help my elderly neighbour make a booking to CBR next week.

She's off to a funeral, but not family so a bereavement fare can't be offered. She did try though.

Based on the Gold Coast so options were Qantas via Sydney and VA direct. She ended up on VA, late flight down on Thursday night, funeral Friday morning, late flight home Friday evening. There were still lite fares available for $135 each way.

Compared with Qantas where the cheapest fare was a saver at ~$300 upwards and business was sold out on some flight, while it wasn't on VA.

Really does seem like Qantas is still the pick, and I'm not sure if spending money on those at the top is working when there could be incentive places on those in the middle, actual FF's.

Has anyone had any good service from pool builders or repairers? Of all the trades we've dealt with, pool builders have been far and away the worst. Keep me away from knives.

How does one find an electrician who isn't a rip off? My 18-19 year old apartment needs the switches in many power points replaced as they are starting to disintegrate and 'pop out'. I know how much the switch costs - $3.85 - and I need 5 changed but I'm getting quotes of $300+ for mid next week (after the long weekend).

I estimate 5 mins work each, so half an hour plus some travel time. $20 parts.. There's no way an electrician should be charging $560+ an hour.

Any recommendations for lower north shore in Sydney?

(I know I could do it myself but that would be illegal).

Usually they have a call out fee of $125ish which includes 15 minutes. Do you have ERS there? Or maybe check your local rag?

What's ERS?

$125 for the first $15 mins plus say another say $100 an hour would equate to a max of say $225 which is comparatively cheap.

Electrical Refrigeration Services. I think it's nation wide? 131240
