One of those sentimental moments - hug the ones you love. Tell them you love them, especially if you think you may not do so often enough. Tell them you're proud of them.

(The Katie family and friends are all fine; a friend from my professional world lost his teenage daughter in a car accident today)

A couple of weeks ago, I had to rush Jnr#1 (22) to hospital after having a CT scan. She was admitted to the Stroke Unit and an MRI confirmed CVST (a blood clot in the brain). I have never been so scared in my life. She spent 5 nights in hospital on that occasion, and another week later, was admitted again for another 3 nights. She is doing ok now, but I can't wait until she has the all clear and the blood clot has resolved (approx. 2-3 mths).

These situations really whack you hard and remind you of the fragility of life.

Sincere condolences to your work colleague. Very very sad.

Very good advice. However I hope to work hard - IMO it is important when new (to both the work place and especially work force) to work hard and provide an example that one can be trusted to complete all tasks + more.

Young and idealistic people make it worse for all of us. ;)

Well seriously, yep you need to show you can earn the trust to be allowed flexibility.

You'll soon find out the reality of this.. is rather the opposite ;)

This one is for JohnK..... flight home tonight, left on time and landed 20 minutes early.
Young and naive :D

hahahaha. Basically I meant the second sentence of yours...

I'll be sure to keep you all updated as I deteriorate from young, enthusiastic individual to grumpy 9-5er!

Nothing wrong with that but just be careful you do not fall into the trap where the employer expects hard work and you are remunarated the same as those who bludge.

No, seriously. This happens quite a lot in the work place. It is happening where I work right now.

What are you trying to tell me? This poor excuse of a miserable life is with me for eternity? Just great....

I know the pain this must have caused.Sincerely hope Jnr1 makes a complete recovery.

A very fine balance between being seen as a good employee, a bad employee, or the employee you go to to fix all your problems without appreciating appropriately. That I am sure of.

robd, I can only imagine the emotions that you and your family were (and are) going through at the moment. Best wishes for your daughter's full recovery.

Robd, there is nothing more frightening than having ones child seriously ill. Good that she is now recovering.

Another MRI on the 27th July, and clinic appointment with haematology, so I hope the reports are good. We have a USDM F holiday to Europe booked on the 18th September and she is determined that we are still going.

Thank you for your best wishes.

I appreciate your thoughts. Thank you very much.

Thoughts are with you also after having had to rush back early last year for my wife who had (at the time) "a bleed on the brain", which turned into a stroke as well. In any case, she's doing so well now that you wouldn't even be able to tell it had happened bar a few small things here and there. She also, was rather young!

It must be the timing. Two weeks ago my niece who is a young mum was rushed back to hospital after an appendectomy as she had developed a clot on her lung. She's fine now and back with her baby. I think in the 9 months since his birth they've had the ambulance multiple times for collapse due to rotavirus (niece), stopping breathing (baby) convulsion (baby ) appendicitis and then the DVT. Her mum (my SIL) is a nervous wreck waiting for the next phone call.

If my daughter phones me during the day, I don't even say hello, it's just "whats wrong?" I panic when I see that it's her ringing.

It's so consuming. Heart and gut wrenching.

This too shall pass.

Oh yes, I know that feeling. But when things are going well they get cranky if you say that. "Why do you always think something's wrong. " Usually because something is! No doubt you will welcome that cranky in a few weeks time.

Exactly right. Tonight she went to a 21st birthday. She phoned me about 15 minutes ago (only left at 7pm). Can you please come and get me? I have a massive headache. She's been good for days and stopped taking the Oxycontin, because she wanted to enjoy the night and have a few drinks. 2 glasses of wine and I've just picked her up and brought her home. Poor thing.

And yes, the cranky means she's getting better :)

You and me both, as I have applied for a 9-5 job (with the same org). Interview Wednesday.

Just an update at the 2 week mark on my life in the west.

I moved into a place in Fremantle, its about 500 metres from Fremantle train station, my trips to work will be via bus and there is a bus stop about 100 metres from where I am living.

I brought some very cheap furniture from Super A-mart a table with 4 chairs for $169.00, very frustrating putting it together, no it wasn't Ikea that stuff goes together rather well. I got the table and one chair put together before it got dark. I also brought a cheap bed which I am going to sleep in while my furniture is sent over from Brisbane. This current place has 2 bedrooms so if anyone comes over from East I will have a spare room with queen size bed.

My box that was despatched on the 14 June. arrived yesterday at 2:00pm, I was starting to stress as I would get my house but nothing to put in it. I was very careful when I buy things I keep the box longer than necessary but it helps when moving.

Next week I will have to set up an account for the electricity, the gas and the internet. Still trying to figure out how to use the correct switches to get myself hot water. Most new places you move into have the electricity and water running, the electricity cuts off after a few days if the usage goes up when you haven't contacted the provider.

I might do an update at the 3 week mark but I will be over in Sydney for AFF mid year, so you might have to hear it from me in person.

Good luck to Queensland in the state of origin on Wednesday. :)

US government has been spying on its citizens and who knows who else.

Sad news.

Here's hoping for a quick recovery.
