Congrats Andy... And thanks for letting me ride on the back of your wave for a few days :D

I knew there was a reason I have been trying to avoid early morning flights where possible. :(

Fast forward to first tee tomorrow lunch time....

So $13,510, and did you mean after three years use, it's paid for itself & you are in front? And then you can sell your excess generation back to the power company? I thought they reduced the buyback cost to a paltry amount!

Correct, after three years the system has returned sufficient savings/earnings to pay itself off. From there on in - it's returning cash to the skyrocket via covering all electrical usage and the building a cash deposit that sits with AGL until I elect to receive a chq.

I'm getting 52c for every KW sold back to the grid.....(44C from QLD GOV & 8c from AGL) which at this point in time is around double what it cost you to buy a KW from the GOV:D Unbelievable - but true:confused:

the life expectancy of the unit?

Panels have a 25 year linear warranty and the inverter has a 10 year warranty.

I can expect a decent 10 years before the inverter needs replacing and 20 years for the panels.

was keen to get one but from the small amount I've read it seemed a big splash upfront and ages to start paying for itself.

Depends on the FIT (feed in tarrif) rate......at 52c/kw the numbers make sense.

The unit is covering a household of 4, two pool pumps that run around 12hrs a day, every load going into the clothes dryer and everything else a modern home/family uses. It's been a very lucrative investment:D

No amaroo got their system heavily subsided by the state and federal government (labor governments) despite being a dyed in the wool conservative voter that doesn't mind some fantastic great incentives to help the environment unless it helps their own back pocket.

 Funny - don't ever remember walking into a polling booth with you:!:

Is this a case of sour grapes.....or, solar envy?

Wonder how you'd handle knowing I pre-paid private health insurance by 18 months to avoid another slug of wisdom being forced down my throat;)

There I was thinking about shorting Webjet shares and along comes a solar investment from Amaroo.
In between this a Scottish tennis player learns he has been fully claimed by the Brits.
Of course we don't pay by the kilo but it was a good test of how gullible we can all be at times.

If the Govt (ha ha ha) made it more attractive in terms of rebates or discounts =more people would install them = units would be cheaper = even more people would install them = reduced demand for fossil fuels = gains all round. Oh wait, I did suggest the Govt could do something smart and as well, good for the environment. Can't type more as I'm falling off my chair helpless with cynical laughter:lol:

I'll be interested to know if you investigate this further. I've had a look at it a couple of times, but it appears all the good rebates and feed-in tariffs are no longer. The current feed in tariff in Victoria is only 8c p/kw.

In Victoria the agreements that are in place remain valid. By then the system has well and truly paid for itself and you are well and truly ahead. (We get 66c/KwH)

My next door neighbour got in on an agreement before the cut-off. I think he's getting around 38c/KwH.

At 8c/Kwh, it's going to take so much longer to break even.

Very high chance of fakes when buying through eBay... Tread carefully.

I know, I have bought stuff before and it has been genuine, but it's the value this time that is stopping me. I almost bought them in Singapore a few months ago for about $1,500AUD but held off. Then I saw them in London for 900STG and again held off. Im regretting it. I really want them.

Funnily enough, the place I first saw them and wanted them immediately was in the Qantas in flight magazine. :)

Very nice view of the C gates in SIN from Skyview lounge.

There are 4 Qantas aircraft, 4 JQ aircraft and it is still daylight. A Qatar aircraft just taxied by and there is another aircraft at the D gates with member of Oneworld painted on it but i am not sure which airline.
