The totally off-topic thread

I have been contemplating a change to my username for a while now and my over-arching concern was the lack of privacy my original screen name afforded me. What seemed like a good idea 10+ years ago (to be bold enough to post under my own name) has only back-fired on me once. I'd rather keep it that way...and have a little bit of "privacy".

A number here will be cognisant of my user name on other sites and how, after an afternoon drinking in the BNE QP with a number of FF members, I was (re)born with this name. Just a pity I can't keep up my QF status at the same heady level :D ;)

I was quite surprised when I checked on AFF and it hadn't been taken. Trust the change doesn't confuse too many people...

Good idea; those silly users with different names between forums.:p

Its been awhile, I was there when the new username was created, time has gone by very fast.

That will be a very sweet "Hello again", JohnK! :)
Not sure the very sweet "Hello again" are going to make the next 10 weeks of torture that much more bearable.

You can only sugar coat things so much by trying to be positive. Reality gets in the way a lot....

I definitely understand the relaxing bit. Just questioning the Sunday mail bit. Perhaps the Queensland version is better than the Advertisers version.

Oh how I love bathroom renovations in old English homes. Just ripping the tiles off the wall only to discover there's another layer of tiles underneath.......

Just like the normal walls in a lot of houses, often multiple layers of wallpaper (and multiple layers of paint on that!).

Haha. Yep. The challenges of renovation. At least you get to find out how much bad taste the previous owners had.

The NTSB has apologized regarding the information so with that in mind, yes they were involved in this.

Interesting. But there is a difference between supplying and verifying. It is easy to ask a verifying question the right way to get an incorrect response.

No arguments there, but you would think alarm bells would ring with the names in question.

The 'names' will now go onto a no speak out loud list at every broadcast outlet in the English speaking world. Much like Mike Hunt. (Say it out loud.) Or even Terry Wrist.

If the journalism was any good I wouldn't mind paying. But it's rubbish. I wonder how many are clicking off as soon as you get that stupid ooops message.

I know I did just recently when someone sent me a link to read....!

Wish Channel 9 would stop referring to the P3 Orion as an "aurion"!

Saw 2 Ospreys this afternoon - very impressive beasties! That's the Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey, not the fish-eating raptor (although there is a mating pair of white-bellied sea eagles that live near here which I see on a regular basis, also a very impressive sight…although my chickens would disagree!)
First time in the metal sighting of the V-22 for me - It was the unusual sound that pricked my ears up.
Immediately emailed a friend to report the sighting (brag) only to find he was much closer and saw them transitioning into level flight from their VTO…bast#*%D!!!

Well, I sure know about the reality, JohnK - I'm back home now after 10 weeks away. Only 6 weeks here with a mountain of stuff to get done before another 20 weeks away from home and quite possibly no opportunity for even a short break back home in this stint.
I don't try to sugarcoat the situation - I need to find real things to focus on and do to stay positive.
The separation is made even harder by living in a foreign country but that's how I deal with it and I manage to stay positive and work effectively - it's a long game.
YMMV but I hope you find your way. :)
