I must be a sucker for punishment... sitting at PER QP right now waiting for my PER-SYD red eye

Anything decent for a midnight snack?

Apart from a cold beer? Or strong nightcap...

Haven't ventured down to the food end of the QP.. still quite content with the dinner I had, so am sitting near the bar sampling the goods

Got a picture of the merchandise on offer.

I have some nice photos of my RTW trip; only half way there.

Is it bad to start drinking at 10:00am in the morning, the computer was saying it was 8:00pm. Perfect time for a drink or 3 provided by the BA Terraces lounge.

Unfortunately not, left my camera at home... but have FLounged with Skoogle today (and got a spa treatment too!), and QF009 is about to join us in the Business Lounge (domestic)

I did not realise it was schoolies week. Surfers Paradise is an absolute mess. We were there for less than an hour and I could not wait to get out of there....

I will be in the Perth QP this Tuesday arvo for the PER-MEL. 5pm if anyone else will be around.

It certainly was the Gecko place.I wouldnt call it good but by no means awful.A good quaff at a barbie-but then there are a lot cheaper wines that fill that role very well.
You never know one day I might get to work there-the last 2 years spent as locum and traveller.I could live on mud crabs for a couple of weeks!I can even see another trip report-From Gladstone to a Game reserve.

The Gladstone Fisherman's Co-op was by far the best place to go when I lived there, but it's almost 20 years ago now that I was living there full time.

I would consider locums in Gladstone as well - but it would be a little bit of a spinout as I'd probably be anaesthetising family friends that I'd grown up with as a kid!

JohnK, I'm a maybe for Wednesday (if I go, I'll be leaving ~6pm). Having been on a Conference Wed night/Thursday/Friday, then First Test on Saturday and FT drinks on Sunday and Tuesday, I might be pushing the envelope a little too far...

I've just opened a bottle of Wirra Wirra Scrubbly Rise (Shiraz cab petit verdot). Can someone tell me what all the fuss is about?

Incidentally it tastes a fair bit better after I've swivvled it vigourously and left it in a decanter for a couple of hours. But still don't get what all the fuss is...

I guess when Qantas first started purveying on their domestic flights it was:
  • A new release and/or re-marketing of a brand/label - producers tend to ensure a higher relative quality in these situations.
  • Far better than the previous reds available in flight.
When I first sampled it in flight I found it quite reasonable. (Note that (IIRC) it was not the blend you described).

More recent tastings have not had the same pleasurable affect, so I put it down to the above.

I quite like it when it was a shiraz (QF had it in whY, SQ had it in J on Australian flights, and I used to buy it in bulk when it was only $13/bottle), which IIRC wasn't as celebrated as the current blend.

On a different note, some bargains to be had at Dan Murphy's yesterday. Got a Paliser Estate pinot noir (Pencarrow) for $16 and for that delightful party in a mouthful that is the Punt Rd pinot noir it's an absolute steal at $19.

im sure someone once said.... a vino a day keeps the doctor away right??? does more than 1 keep them away longer? :D

im currently demolishing my cellar to make room for this sat, m'vale wine cruise here we come!!! :D

RANT !! The company I work for books airfares only a few weeks before departure. I have ended up on a full United Airlines flight from SYD>LAX on December 9th and the only seats available (2 of them) in Y are in the middle of a 3 set. Add to this the lack of personal entertainment, am I going to want to off myself? I have never flown United, is Y the same as other airlines (service wise etc.) I miss the days of getting to an airport early and having the option of requesting a window seat, now days it's all done online and all the seats are snapped up before you even get to the airport !

Keep watching the seatmap. Things do change as people change their travel plans. You may just be able to snag a better seat. And its still worth turning up early and asking for your preferred seat type. You never know who may have cancelled last minute.
