Too easy! How annoying my timings didn't work out... Otherwise i would be celebrating too today!

I always laugh when the BBC reports about itself on the news. always at arms length...

It is when its combined with Pommy hot air ;)

There are certain lines on the tube which are well known for their heat. Complete sweatboxes. I pity anyone catching them in PM peak (am might be a touch better!). Luckily with my role i tend to be able to avoid them as I'm generally travelling against the crowds.

But then isn't British Rail infamous for the hot air that gets blasted inside their trains?

Funniest thing ive heard this week is that buses are hot because unless the engine heat is used to heat the cabin the bus will overheat.

And yes. Plenty of hot air when it comes to National Rail ... There is certainly a lot of hot air inflating the price of rail tickets!

LOL, we have the opposite in Sydney, there are certain bus services/routes, that the drivers call "Refrigerated Air Transporters".

The train I tend to catch into town is usually one of the newer ones, which has nice chilled aircon. Pleasant.

As are some of mine. But some trains are sweatboxes. New rolling stock does help!

Tfl has done a lot to improve the tube network heat wise but there is still more to do. But overall I find it OK.

Not a happy chappy this morning - my just on 12 months old Ultrabook is playing up. I suspect the coffee spill  has taken its toll.
Doubt that it will be cost effective to repair so it looks like a new Laptop or Ultrabook will have to be purchased

What are you experiencing? Which brand?

Its a Pioneer Computers Dreambook, several of the keys won't work anymore and some of the programmes such as IE and Word do not want to load. That is not to say others will load just that I have not tried them.

To quote from the movie Apollo 13:
[big exasperated sigh] "Tell me this isn't a government operation..."

"This just isn't a contingency we've remotely looked at..."

I laugh at Brits complaining about the 30 degC+ heat, but yeah, being stuck in a sweatbox is not good, but more to the point that there's basically no circulation.

Our "climate controlled" buildings have a similar (but much lesser admittedly) problem in that it's purely controlling the rate of cold air being cycled. In winter, obviously "less" cold air is required to keep the room at a given temperature. Which is fine, but that also means no air circulating, which means the air gets quite stale quickly. Not good - sometimes you get that suffocating feeling.

My folks will be over in Old Blightly briefly next month but then a few days in early September. Hope the weather isn't too blistering then.

Most notebooks these days have a single-assembly motherboard whose components are not readily replaceable, so if your damage isn't covered under warranty then it's usually uneconomical to repair (because they'll basically order a new board).

If several keys don't work any more, I guess it'll depend on whether it's wear and tear / pressure damage or if the coffee spill did it (liquid damage - usually never covered).

As for programs not loading, that may be a software fault (no idea why) - unless the hard drive was going into remission, not likely the coffee did that.
