They're not that bad. Paris is much worse.... and Perth. Must just be towns starting with P.
I've never had much trouble finding an affordable bed in either place. Perhaps they saw you coming? ;)

What I haven't found in Paris is a room that's both reasonably-sized and reasonably-priced at the same time.

And Paris, of course, is the site of my second-worst shower experience ever.

As I heard in a documentary recently... It is cheaper to send a shipping container from china to the UK than it is to ship the same container to the closest UK town from the wharf.
Cripes. Modern economics.

Is it true, I wonder, that shipping companies have sinking funds?

$40 is mid priced? Shows how inflation is affecting Australia. Glad I now live in London.

$40 is hardly mid-priced. Unless you're paying for a name like "the brekky creek". Plenty of places do a good steak for under $30 in Sydney.

All this talk of meat is making me hungry. But that means getting out of bed & I don't want (or need) to do that.

Just watched the City 2 surf run.

I am buggered...

IMHO Brekky Creek is over rated and also over priced

Had a steak there yesterday and happy to report they did a good job. Been a while since I'd had one there and they did a good job, so I was happy to part with my money this time.

Only if you eat out at fancy restaurants.

I bought 1kg rump last night (raw) and paid just over $10. That is about as cheap as I can remember rump steak for a long time.

And that should be enough to take care of dinner for 3 nights. ;)

Perth hotel prices appear to have slumped. It was pretty embarrassing to have folks pay $800 for a room that should have been sub $200.

I heard the Japanese also get our good meat whilst we get the leftovers.
With all due respect that is totally incorrect.

In simplest terms - Aust beef supplied to the Japanese market is primarily from 2.5yo and olders steers and bullocks - commonly known as 'Jap ox'. Most beef consumed in Aust - let's just talk 'primal cuts' like eyes fillet, scotch, porterhouse, rump etc is from 12mth to 24mth old steers and heifers.

Japanese market = 300kg and above carcass weight / Dom market in Aust mostly 150kg to 200kg for supermarket / local butcher shop trade. Per kg price paid at time of purchase at market or direct from farmer for greatest part of year is higher for domestic beef than for Japanese export beef - but it varies greatly - direct result of demand and supply.

In short - quality of beef consumed as primals in Aust is fabulous quality fully equal in quality of best Jap ox - just younger and significantly smaller carcasses.

I remember when I was a programmer. One of the youngsters described a game of volleyball he'd had at his gym. "...and at the end, I was buggered."

I looked at him with interest. "The game has certainly changed since I was a lad."

So was he the winner...???

An ex of mine had the story about using the word buggered in one of her school presentations. The nuns soon hit home the meaning of the word.

Depends on the grade-hope its not labelled budget.
