Another story about someone having a long wait in a hospital emergency department in Sydney...

We spent 4hrs at the Royal Children's Hospital Emergency deptl ast Tues night. No-one else in the waiting area when I arrived with Little Miss at around 6pm. Straight to talking to triage or whoever, and quickly around the corner to a room (my BFF tells me we were in a "crash room"). 4hrs, lots of attentive staff, 2 vomits, some sandwiches & bikkies, dead phone battery, and a CT scan later ... As well as hourly observations, we were able to leave at 10pm., 6hrs after Little Miss fell.

We might have been lucky with a relatively quiet night, but we had a great experience, for our first emergency visit & concussion for Little Miss. Wasn't sure it would be like that with everything that's been going on at Qld Health!

I think the options are S M L, with quite a variance in their sizing, so a L is really L to XXL.

The ones I've seen have been S/M or L/XL as far as I can recall. I get L/XL, and if a very tactful FAis handing them out, they might suggest I need L/XL as I'm so tall. ;)
Random: on a flight to LHR, they only had L/XL; I saw a very petite woman who put hers on, then went and got out of them as they were too large for her.

& if they don't have them in your desired colour & size on board you could just throw a tantrum like the 'good" Doctor did.
..looks for link.

What's NM's propensity to typographical errors got to do with anything :?:

As for the last part of your comment, I think you've been hitting the bottle a little early this afternoon, Kiwi Flyer, because that made no sense   . (No, actually it's your proclivity to typo's on this occasion  )

NM, OTT = Over The Top (I wonder if these should be added to the abbreviations thread)...

OTT yeah you know me, who's down with OTT?

Sounds like it was a rather rough night. Hope M is feeling much better.

I wonder the fact that it is a specific Children's Hospital and a Tuesday night would have helped. I presume everything's OK?

Yes, a quiet day at home with her Dad on Weds, and back to school on Thurs. :)
At about the time the doctors decided to do the CT, she picked up, so at that point I figured she would be fine (because I don't know any better!)

am still pretty amazed it's taken us almost 7yrs before we've had an emergency dept visit!! :D

Thanks, all good, she bounced. :)
but gosh, it's really boring when yourc hild is sleeping, and your phone battery is dead. Ieven read the Little Golden Books/story books in her first areato have something to do for 5 mins.

Ir ealise it could have been much worse, and I should not complain about being bored while waiting with a child in emergency!!

That's why it's useful to keep a spare battery and USB cable in your handbag. :)

So I've only got a year left to wait out with Miss C, although I'm sure it will be Master J who will be the overly adventurous one and be the first in the family. Miss C had 3 days off this week with a virus/cough.

Thanks, all good, she bounced. :)

You really must keep the phone charged Katie and always have a phone charger handy or in your handbag.

If you are worried by Aussie hospitals don't come to Canada. One of the main items here at the moment is about a ~30s year old fellow taken to emergency and triaged.34 hours later he was found dead in the waiting room.

At the risk of boring people and not knowing anything other than what was published there are several things about the entire story which seem a bit odd.
Teenage girl presents to hospital ED with letter from Dr stating that she has suspected appendicitis ( not odd millions of teenagers present with similar letters and of these a few will turn out to have appendicitis)
Waits 9 hours in the waiting room, including spending some time asleep on the floor with a blanket during which her mother takes a picture of her ( very odd, long time to wait in the waiting room, even odder that the mother takes a picture of daughter without apparently at that time escalating her concern to the nursing staff at triage)
Leaves department and returns next day after further outpatient medical review and is going to have an appendicectomy in two weeks (very, very odd as most cases of serious appendicitis are promptly treated surgically).

No doubt the hospital concerned wishes it had treated the patient more promptly in the circumstances but I have to say I remain deeply skeptical about the entire story as reported so far
