china is the easiest place to cross the road! :) just remember you have no right of way :)

only time you have right of way is if you have crossed over far enough that you can't see a car behind you. then they're not allowed to run you over.

On the other hand, if you get run over and killed, then you can't complain that you were run over, right?

Always pays to walk carefully when in Asia - and watch your back, too.

watch your back as in 'crime'? thankfully that is one thing you never have to worry about in china!! china is a model on how Australian CBD areas should be on Friday and Saturday nights.

why is it that Australians (and others as well) can't manage a decent night out without violence, beatings, glassings and public disorder? King street in Melbourne is a disgrace.

Have never hesitated to walk the streets of China late at night/early mornings but a real shame I'm not keen to do it in my own city.

Depends on what sort of conferences you are interested in going to, I guess. The relevant industry groups may have a calendar available.

May or may not help you but I really like this site
Medicon | Medical conferences from the worlds largest medical conference database
Presume there are similar sites for other industries
Thanks for the suggestions.

Anything to do with emergency services covers a fair whack of specialist groups. Back to Google...

JQ818 is cancelled.

SWMBO is in Sydney.

What does JQ do as they don't seem to have anymore flights from SYD to BNE today.

Sad to hear.

One of those important reasons I have avoided JQ like the plague.

Hope things work out and she is not given a flight mid-next week.

Not corrected for socioeconomic status......

You would like to think that academic integrity dictates that they should have considered this factor in their analysis, including others like effect of age (and age distribution).

N.B. I haven't read the paper yet and haven't the time, so not sure if they did any of these considerations, or even pathway analysis (e.g. how does noise link to health problems).

Get SWMBO to the airport posthaste and discuss options with the front desk, putting you on the speakerphone if necessary.

I'd be trying to get onto a QF flight (unlikely, but could happen). Failing that, it'll just have to be either an extra night or stumping up the cash then going to the travel insurance.

I can't remember JQ's exact stance but I thought their customer charter (for whatever it is worth) will offer a refund (with no fees) + $50 if they can't get you on a reasonably comparable option (and whilst 6 hours may not be reasonable to anyone except JQ, I don't see how another day would be!).

The drastic alternative is if OOL is possible, even though you'll have to invest at least an extra two hours to pick her up (might as well have a nice dinner on the other Coast ;)).

The issue being that lower socioeconomic status self selects around airports.

In this case, how generalise-able is the result given it's only assessed in communities around Heathrow (IIRC - I read the newspaper articles (not the actual paper) a couple of days ago)?

That's a good point, which makes the whole investigation of casual links and pathways more important.

SWMBO is travelling in a group of 5 other ladies.

That is why JQ was booked.

I said don't book JQ but it was all taken out of my hands.

They offered her a flight to BNE tomorrow morning but no accommodation.

One of the other ladies had to work tomorrow morning so they are flying into OOL and then getting a Taxi to BNE Airport to pick up there vehicles.

Because there is 5 way too hard to pick them up from OOL and drive them to BNE Airport.

I had a look on line and the cab fare will be App $200 so about $40 per person.

Update now on a QF flight to BNE but last one of the night.

Delays in SYD could mean they get a overnight delay.

Well that's a mixed blessing I suppose.

As for the friend that needs to work tomorrow, she might be sweating bullets. Hope she doesn't have to start work extremely early.

At least with QF they will be accommodated if stuck. No surprise JQ will leave them in the cold.

Probably up for another day's charge for car parking if they get stuck due to curfew.

I blame this on JohnK. Even he said that, "Fun is over". :p ;)

(No offence, JohnK )

Speaking of games & quizzes as we were a few posts ago, one that has been circulating on my Facebook feed is Ikea or Death. You are given a name & you have to decide if the name is the name of an Ikea product or a death metal band. One of my friends who isn't a metalhead got 70% correct.

IKEA or Death

IKEA or Death
Sounds like something that was on Spicks and Specks

Got about the same. Probably says more about how much time I spend at ikea than anything else....

This is the exact reason why sick days were invented.

My fun over. Not everyone else's.

FWIW I heard in BNE the JQ passengers were re-accommodated on QF555 which is an excellnet result considering you paid for JQ flights and service and end up getting all the bells and whistles with one of the worlds leading carriers.

I certainly hope lesson has been learnt but I am afraid same people will end up booking JQ again in future with limited scheduled services.
