Which phobia?

Booking JQ with 3 daily SYD-BNE services and last one around middle of day? No thanks.

Easy!

Having done 4 years of weekly commuting MCY-SYD-MCY on J* and earning 40SC every week:D (earning well over 7,000SC)......this phobia is just another silly thing that disappears when one dips the toes.

In 4 years of weekly commuting - I never failed to board a flight to SYD or home to MCY....never had a delay more than 1.5hrs.......and only had to land at BNE twice due to poor weather (nothing to do with J*). I had an exit row every time and met quite a few celebrities making their way to the Sunny Coast.

Each week I saved 3+ hours of driving to and from BNE and was at the beach within 20 mins of landing every Friday:D:cool::D

But MCY is a special place.4 JQ flights to SYD per day compared to VAs 1.
Which is why I fly JQ from MCY and back.Try never to book the last flight of the day however.

When I was doing it - only three flights a day and only three flights a day now.

Quite often got the last flight Friday evening......no dramas.

4 JQ flights tomorrow and Tuesday MCY-SYD.
Trouble with the last flight on Friday was that I was catching it to SYD.In summer with daylight saving an hours delay means flirting with the curfew.Caught it once and got into SYD 3 minutes before curfew.Decided not to risk it again.

Only three on Tuesday - must be a seasonal change.

My experience is 4 years of weekly commuting.....never had a problem.

edit - looks like there is four....they must only display what is available?

Speaking of games & quizzes as we were a few posts ago, one that has been circulating on my Facebook feed is Ikea or Death. You are given a name & you have to decide if the name is the name of an Ikea product or a death metal band. One of my friends who isn't a metalhead got 70% correct.

What I'm curious about is how it can circumvent the sound settings on my mobile and make the noise!

I've started commuting again - due to flight schedules I have to drive to BNE every week to sit on a QF bird :(

Bloody PITA!

Just to dig up an old conversation about people pilfering stationary from other peoples desks. While I was on leave I lost all my marker pens, my pipettes (lab equipment, everyone has their own), a full box of tissues, and my lab coat  Was not so fun having to go to the person in charge of supplies and explain why I needed all new things (except the pipette, that was the only thing I managed to locate).

All marker pens is going a bit far, a full box of tissues is rather immaterial but still odd.... but the pipettes are a shade far and your lab coat is I think a shade too far!

That said, I've never known anyone to have their own pipettes. I know people have lab equipment allocations, but notwithstanding minimising contamination there's always a communal set of resources that people use, and they of course need to be clean when not in use. Well, that's as far as I know.

Lab coats... I BYO so if it was stolen I'd be rather livid. If the company supplies one then it's not bad unless whoever is in charge of inventory gets suspicious about it.

Marker pens were provided by me so a bit annoying, tissue shortage when you have the runny nose from hell more annoying. They were nice enough to leave me the empty box, in my office.

We all have our own set of pipettes; working with human samples means contamination issues so its preferred to stick to your own. Lab coats are provided by the institute but you always have your "own", and mine has vanished. Fortunately our supply person is used to my "xx_ has gone missing, can I have another one/two/three"

Its like "welcome back to work, hope you dont mind we used up/lost all your stuff while you were gone" :p

This is the exact reason why sick days were invented.

My fun over. Not everyone else's.

FWIW I heard in BNE the JQ passengers were re-accommodated on QF555 which is an excellnet result considering you paid for JQ flights and service and end up getting all the bells and whistles with one of the worlds leading carriers.

I certainly hope lesson has been learnt but I am afraid same people will end up booking JQ again in future with limited scheduled services.

actually to be honest? QF gives you a biscuit and a cup of coffee.. not sure what other bells and whistles... but I did a JQ recently and I was blown away by the service (friendly and efficient), the ease of booking a price match (they even found an 8 year old booking and took my details off that so I didn't have to spend time!) and the ease of check-in (ex sin).

I left with a distinct feeling that the JQ main cabin service was far better than QF. maybe it's because there is so much confusion/blurring of the lines now with QF with platinums a expecting almost full business class service/amenities for an economy fare... makes it difficult for the crew to focus on service for the rest?

This is the sort of service any Platinum should expect isn't it? (VA555 this morning)

I had a number of meals there (Xmas parties, dinners and lunches) over the years :(.

At least on dinner flights some dinner is provided and on weekdays alcohol is also served. Dont forget luggage is also included in base airfare although this may not last much longer. As I am commuting luggage allowance is important.

We had 40 minute delay yesterday, Sunday, and I was in 4D and offered alcohol while we waited and then also offered alcohol with snack. At the same time JQ flight was cancelled. I dont need that stress.

To me the little things matter....

true... but for pax transferred from JQ to QF... they're not going to have baggage with them anyway if they purchased a starter fare... so that doesn't count. yes, they'd get slightly 'enhanced' 'catering' if they managed to score a food flight :)

Last night, I was looking for someone in a metal band to come onto my metal music podcast to play a quick game of Ikea or Death & then talk what they've been up to then play some tunes.

Instead, I ended up talking to an American friend catching up for 90 minutes before he says "We should be recording this..."

2 & 1/2 hours later, we finished our conversation when it was 0600 his time (he's a night owl, luckily) after we talked about the American shutdown, the Statue of Liberty, his status as a newly minted vegan, 9/11 & people on the internet.

Fun times.

I ended up playing Ikea or Death by myself.
