And then you get aged stock... brilliant... not.

Actually, pretty good you can get orders within a day or so. When I used to work at HN, the average stock order would take about three business days (weekends don't count, even though we traded on the weekends). Store transfers were not so bad but if the item was selling hot you had buckley's chance convincing another store to give you stock. Nothing like having to track customer backorders...

One of my suppliers are in PER and they will get stock to me the next day everytime and love the fact of the time difference as I can order right up until closing time and still get it the next day. I was working in Mt Isa and needed some stuff and had it the next morning and it was ordered it 5pm in the afternoon Qld time.

OOL supplier sometimes same day other times overnight.

One of my other suppliers warehouse is in China and they take 2 days to deliver goods to me.

Sounds quite consistent..
I can usually get samples & ready stock from China in 2-3 days as well. :D

they do have issues when there is large volume of orders coming out on one day which has caused issues sometimes but that doesn't happen on a regular basis as they are generally when there is a new product released and general freight volumes are higher out of China anyway.

I was talking to one of the supplier staff and they struggled due to the fact they got over 500 orders in one day then had issues of getting stock out on planes and I was only a small order and it was 3 or 4 boxes so I would be guessing it would have been 3 or 4000 boxes of freight out of China on one day plus all of the other freight.

They generally use CX flight to BNE from HKG which gets in about midnight.

I have seen staff that think that the business can just waste money on cough or the other thing I like is when staff say it is OK it is a tax deduction anyway.

I don't care I still have to have the money to pay for it at the start.

We had one of those issues today. We have a car park in front of our office. It is an office where people go out - not come into. There are a couple of weeds in the front space normally hidden by cars. Someone wanted us to get a gardener in to pull them out.

And last week it was hot in the office so the air cond switch was turned to cooling, not heating. I was filling in while someone was on annual leave. Today there were complaints that the air cond was too cold. So I asked them if they had switched it to heat and not cool. Yes, came back the email. But it still isn't working. No choice but to go into the office. Oh, you mean that switch that says cool (I had already emailed that there was a separate toggle switch). Yep, that would be the one.

I am several years older than these people, but really, it isnt rocket science. What has happened to resilience? Thinking of alternatives? Trying other things? How did they get to be as old as they are?

If it is not the staff's money they don't care.

A few years ago at the Xmas party I just gave everyone an amount of money for drinks and that was it, reason behind it was that the place we went to did not have or did not want to run bar tabs.

So I allocated each adult attending $50 each for drinks.

I was at the bar buying a drink for myself and my partner and a staff member said we have to get one round out of you and I said OK, no big deal and there was more spirits in that round than was drank for the rest of the night.

Comment from staff member was it is ok it is a Tax deduction for you so who cares.

I didn't think alcohol was a tax deduction anyway? I know I ranted about this, maybe on WP but each Christmas we have drinks and snacks at a pub and then a lunch for the office staff at a nice restaurant. How many people said "thankyou"? None! Things will change this year.

Yep none would be my guess as well...

Staff think it is an entitlement to receive it.

Alcohol is not a tax deduction but staff think everything is a tax deduction.

One of my staff who lived close to me said you can pick us up as we both want to drink.

That also changed my mind about the bar situation.

We had 30 years owning a small business with, in the end, 25 staff. In the last 10-12 years MrMac being a kind and generous soul, used to give each a David Jones or Myer voucher for a couple of hundred $ (we sold in 2005 so back then a pretty decent gift) Out of the 25, only one girl consistently came in after the holidays and thanked us again and told us what she'd bought. Always thrilled and appreciative, and she was from the very lowest socio-economic strata. Yer can't buy manners! In the final year we were a little late issuing them and one of the staff came in to ask when they'd be getting their Christmas bonus as she wanted to go shopping and had been relying on it. Needless to say.....we were so fed up that was the last time. Except for - you guessed it - the lovely girl who'd never looked for it and always was grateful. In the end I just think well they were b.... lucky to get a job and a paycheck! I figure most times staff think the boss only got there through their sweat and tears, basically the boss is a b.....d - either a halfway decent or a total, but essentially always a b.
Rant over!;)

I am a big person for manners.

Little Miss Simo if I may say so as a parent has good manners and people do compliment her on them.
