Our newest driver is about to have her wings clipped with a 3 month suspension
Got back from PER today to find a fixed penalty notice from a speed camera in Pacific Highway Sydney North Shore. Luckily for me I was at work over a hundred ks away ;)
Luckily for her we'll be in the LOTFAP for most of the suspension period, I can only hope it's taught her a lesson :!:

Must have been going a little fast.

Did she say it Wasn't me!!!

Lucky for me I wasn't at Hornsby this afternoon. 6 of my colleagues were in this temporary meal room when it went pear shaped. A couple of them were taken to hospital for reportedly minor injuries.

Not my pic.

Wild storm through Gold Coast this afternoon.
Fortunately my vehicles were undercover & no damage from large hailstones.
Looks like quite a few people got caught out & I saw a few rental cars hail damaged at the theme parks afterwards.

Glad all went well for you JL, storms are certainly chasing you around lately!

I was watching it as it was coming straight on to me for a little while and jagged away toward the northern end of the coast at what seemed the last minute.

I'm on the north side of GC.
I should have taken some photos, though really didn't want to run the gauntlet with a camera in the yard during the hail, but my undulating lawn did slightly resemble a temporary ski run. :D

Ski-ing on the GC- now that would be different.

VA really need to get a lounge at HBA.

Also the time taken to get thru security screening was a joke - one lane, 4 flights (JQ/VA) going.

Yep - lost mine for 3 months for speeding within my first year of driving. Never lost it since (and you now know how long that is, cove ;)).

My nice new white secondhand car in Perth has front and rear radar/laser detection seeing we live in Western Australia where it is legal. The system reports red light and speed cameras as well.
Naturally I have tried hard to keep my 12 points intact and so far so good.
It was really funny that we were at the same primary school only 55 years ago JohnM. Now that is a coincidence to meet up thru AFF.

Not only same school but same class!

Small world,

We were having a chat at work, one of the younger accounts staff is looking to go away traveling around Europe next year and a few of us said you should do that while still young, I think her dads response that she should put the money towards a house.

And the discussion went on to talk about different websites like couch surfing and you never know who you might meet, then I mentioned what I had read on a travel website today where 2 people had met after so many years and were in the same primary school class.

That reminded one of the staff of an occurrence a few years ago, one of the staff was shopping with her mum they are from Zimbabwe, the daughter has been in Perth for about 10 years but her mum had at the time around 2009 only just arrived in Australia, at Coles in WA and probably other places in Australia they have older staff working the different sections, they usually have older staff working the fruit and vegetable section at my local Coles and so the staff member heard the accent and the younger one(the staff member at the new company I worked with got talking and found they were from the same town, and then they compared names and then they realized after calling over her mum that she might recognize the names of different friends due to the age difference and found out her mum and shop assistant went to the same primary school in Zimbabwe, before each of them had moved out to Australia at different times.

Her mum and the Coles staff have become good friends and talk regularly.

Sometimes you get coincidences in life that you cannot plan, and then work out whether they might lead someone, at the end of the discussion go and meet new people and travel you might never know who you might meet.

Sorry to get off track, I guess this is the, "the-totally-off-topic-thread.

WA must be the windiest place in the planet, its windy at the weirdest time just not when I am on a boat wanting wind.

In SA that would take her back to her L plates after the suspension.

What would it mean in that case? Does it mean you have to pay for and sit the driving test all over again, plus restart your provisional licence period all over again?

Yes. You would most likely just do the test again. And go through all the P process again. And then not be able to get a full licence until 2 years later or something? It's quite harsh.

WOW, small world :)

I love those little coincidences.

Does SA automatically suspend P1 drivers for any speeding offence though?

No, I think it's 3 demerit points but if they want to its easy to find three points in one go, or if a certain speed then it's automatic.

It's been a while since I've had a p driver in the house so the demerit points might be higher (probably not. :p)

We have hoon laws that allow crushing of cars, tough P laws etc and our death toll keeps rising.

I thought most speeding demerits start at 3 points (at least in QLD). Maybe it starts at 2 points. Beats me. I know in most cases with a P, you only get at best one chance on almost any infringement. Hardly anyone gets more than one before your licence is toast. Could be different / more stringent now with the P1 / P2 system (that I didn't have to go through).

I think QLD got some inspiration from your state's laws.

As for the death toll still rising, not sure about that one. I thought the death toll was more related to an increase in crime in SA, not necessarily traffic related.

It starts at one, for being under 13kmh over the limit. Amusing to see this in the list: Improper passing or overtaking of trams, they must have figured they would be back eventually.
