Pool water temp was 31 degrees, home office was 24 degrees.

"Love, you want a cuppa"
"Yes please"
"no worries I will just go turn the pool pump on"

A set roster would be awesome! Earlier on in crewing, I had a 4 line rotator (fortnight per line) which was great for being able to work out with some degree of certainty where I was going on a particular day, days off etc. I had nowhere the amount of start times then that I do now.

In terms of diagrams that actually leave the depot, my earliest potential sign-on time is 0130 & the latest (not including NYE) is around 2030. On average at the moment, I need to swap half my fortnights away because my start times don't suit me. Just today, I read a union circular about crew having problems contacting their roster clerk. Surprise surprise because so many people have to call in for swaps (my roster clerk looks after about 350 people) because people feel the need to change their rostered working.

Now, if they brought technology into play here instead of relying on a person to do it ................

Right way, wrong way, rail way...

The rosters are done on a computer. They are printed out on a series of large sheets of paper & put on a wall. Once they are up, the wall rosters are amended hy hand.

There is a computer program that tells the supervisorery people what the current rosters are.

To swap, I have to make a phone call (generally they are there 0600 - 1400). Guards have to fill in a form that both people sign.

Our rostered working can be altered without a phone call to us up to 48 hrs in advance (they write the changes on the roster which we are expected to check daily).

I don't have work email. Parts of the intranet are restricted to me. I can't get remote access.

Any safety documents I need have to be printed out despite PDF versions being available.

Maybe my new GM (from England) might be able to help bring us forward.

Sounds very archaic!

As a part of the current Enterprise Agreement discussions for the 2014 agreement, my CEO (also English) says we have to get out of the steam era. Probably that will mean that allowances & conditions are under attack but anything that could be of benefit to the employee (eg modern rostering practices) probably won't happen.

It matches the rail system

Try working on it! LOL.

I'm driving some trains that are nearly as old as I am! There are some younger crew who would be driving trains that are older than them & that's not the oldest type of train on the network!

Aah London weather. Always exciting. Today's installment:
Heavy gusts of wind and rain. At least temperature wise it isn't too chilly. (And no snow!)

I don't think we'll get any snow this year... too mild, won't be until at least Jan/Feb!

Rain has stopped here and skies are blue now.. might go for a walk into town then check for some cards at a certain shop ;)

A friend of mine who works on one of the UK networks sent me this photo the other day on FB when we were talking about speed restrictions caused by heat here on Friday. Someone else then commented "It's the wrong kind of snow!"

Hahaha. Yes that is definately the wrong type of snow. Will be from Scotland somewhere I think, although the train spotter in me doesn't recognise the livery.

Yeah weather has improved. The gusts last night were crazy... Could hear various things being thrown around the neighbourhood.

You're looking for a dear husband Christmas card aren't you ;)
