I'm waiting for a little ray of sunshine to finish having a meeting.

And then we are going to have a meeting of our own ... over lunch.

Had to change that last line from "in bed" to "over lunch" to fit the situation but that's the Simpsons voice I had in my head as I was thinking of the message.

My friendly PDX quizmaster now reads my tweets in my accents after meeting me for the first time last year.

So it is finally Friday.

Hands up anyone here who schedules information sessions on a Friday between 2:00pm-4:00pm? This is supposed to be a product handover so we can support the product. Wouldnt it make sense for it to be earlier in the week?

It is the way management keep everyone at work until 5 on a Friday.

Perhaps but that time is also the time where people are not going to retain as much information as earlier in the week.

And I am still leaving at 3:20pm (which is much later than usual) as I have a much more important appointment at the airport.

I have this discussion with my staff sometimes,

And I have told them a few times you are paid until 5 you will stay until 5.

I am a retail business,

I had a staff member who wanted to take off early on Fridays because he had to be somewhere on a Friday I am fine with it every now and then but not every week.

Does anyone know (I have faith that someone will) how I can check whether an email address is active, other than sending an email to it?

Totally understand your position being a retail business.

My industry is slightly different.

There is a lot of flexibility with starting times and finishing times. Core hours are 10:00am-4:00pm except for special arrangements such as mine. I work 10 hours, 9 hours, 7 hours, 7 hours and 5 hours. Sometimes different times if I am leaving earlier.

We have 4 weeks annual leave and the option to purchase another 2 weeks. I also request additional 3-4 weeks unpaid leave and it is spproved.

If I didn't have that flexibility I could not cope. I have been here for nearly 6 years so I must have something to offer. My ideal job going forward would be 3 months on and 3 months off but that would be very difficult.

Even if you send an email it does not mean it is "active". I have a couple of addresses that I have not logged into for years but by the same token not shut down. Unless the providor shuts those down due to inactivity you could still send an email that would not bounce nor be "received".

HR is insisting I got my pay rise in September. My pay slips and contract say otherwise. I really don't understand why this is so difficult for them.

Ok, well I guess I'll send an email, hope for the best and follow up with a snail mail.

Unfortunately I will have to decline as that time clashes with a super very important recurring work meeting at 1pm on Friday that can go for several hours as super very important matters are discussed :p :p

The title of the meeting is "Lunch"

Well, I'm on my 3rd training course this week. Late start this time, 10am - but I envisage it'll probably go till 4/5pm.. then there's the 70 mile drive home. Yay Friday and yay M25.

You feel 10:00am is late start? Normal for some.

I don't think I can cope with earlier start and I don't think they can pay me enough either. Shame the jobs have dried up. I love being in control.

I don't know anyone who works the old 'banker's hours' any more.

Indeed. My work week involves a couple of 11hour days to make sure I get the hours in. The best feeling is having CEOs (yes there is more than one in the office) and executive types walking past telling me to go home.

Another year or so and your eligible for long service leave (pro rata).

Hmmm, very 1980s! ;)

(And 1990s) though TBH that applied every day of the week. :o
