Can't believe I'm less than 1,500 posts off 10,000. Where did the postage go? :) (Need one of those time graphs that show posts made versus time)

Might have cracked it by now if not by virtue of the Playground-doesn't-count rule. (Got nothing against the rule, though).

Main problem is my title changes at 10,000. I don't know about the other 10,000+ members, but I don't like the title, "Posting Enthusiast". I'd rather stay as a "Senior Member" (and being on here for about 8 years or so now, that's probably pushing into forum-geriatric territory!). :) (No, mods, don't contact me to join the Moderator team - I can't and won't do it!)

Gonna be interesting until then...... :D
Maybe some extra-bright AFF member could invent a 'post tracker' a bit like flight tracker!

Hope everyone has a great Aussie Day tomorrow

And the same to you. BBQ, Fosters and home made Lamingtons for us folk over in London. OH ... and a good dash of rain.

Please don't tell me anyone falls for this rubbish.

Ha, received that exact same spam last night/this morning.

HR is insisting I got my pay rise in September. My pay slips and contract say otherwise. I really don't understand why this is so difficult for them.
Ah...HR are different bods to us wage slaves. The answer is - just because they can -and when it all gets too frustrating to deal with, just imagine it's a Monty Python sketch. With John Cleese in charge. And it will all make sense...

Happy Australia Day everyone :)
We are currently in BNE onboard QF 8 to SYD, for once it wasn't late and the connection fairies were smiling :D

What do you mean by leave employment? Retrenched? I thought after 5 years you were entitled to long service leave if you are retrenched.

If my sanity can last another 4 years I could reconsider my decision to leave next year....
If you are working in QLD you only get LSL after 7 years if you are made redundant

Its payable under a variety of circumstances:

The employee's service is terminated by their death
The employee terminates their service because of their illness or incapacity or because of a domestic or other pressing necessity
The employer dismisses the employee for a reason other than the employee's conduct, capacity or performance; or
The employer unfairly dismisses the employee.

There are also industry specific exemptions.

Sorry to hear of the ill health hope you are on your way to recovery

Thanks, very much so I am pleased to say! Industrial relations must be an interesting field to practice in, from my experience it's only when you are experiencing an issue personally do you discover how much of a mess the law is, and Queenslanders don't seem to have been served well by former governments who took something of an ignorant approach or just plane gave up and handed over responsibility.

I could not agree with your more your sentiment on the law is correct it is a mess and even just with LSL you have phasing in provisions, as you addressed earlier different areas have different provisions like the building industry and contract cleaning, not to mention if you are covered by federal legislation like the MTA which does not give you pro rata till 10 years. Take Care and Happy Australia Day

Makes you wonder how many employees with the requisite number of years, terminate their employment due to illness!

Having worked in the field for a number of years a lot of people do resign with the words a pressing domestic necessity. When I worked in the trade union movement I can assure you those words stood up and supported an employees claim in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.

A Qantas employee won their case in 1996 when they became engaged to a US Marine and relocated (AMACSU v Qantas Airways Ltd), while a Bachelor who had always lived with his parents lost his when the parents moved to Tassie and he followed (Thomson v Pauls). I suspect illness might sometimes be easier or harder to prove depending on the case details, when your Doctor says you have the highest blood pressure he has ever seen, in my case it was quite clear.

I am actually hoping they offer redundancy to reduce the taxation paid. They keep hiring new staff and there is not enough work going around.

The highest BP I have treated is 250/130 - same on both arms and was around this on any day of the week. He was a PNG citizen and was asymptomatic with it. The guy left our company and somehow passed a medical with another company and I haven't heard of him since.

Otherwise, the second highest pre-treatment BP was 190/110.
