Lots of suggestions - though almost all of them are pasta! :)

I thought stroganoff usually calls for sour cream...

Strawberries and cream?

Or just sear a steak and then remove it, stir the cream into the pan and stir out the juices, maybe add a drop or two of BBQ sauce and pour over the steak. Also tastes nice on bread if any leftover.

Could have been worse. They could have suggested curry. ;)

I don't mind curry and creamy curries can be good.

That said, had Indian the other night, plus I don't have a mortar and pestle, or small blitzer...not to mention between 10 - 25 different spice ingredients.....

How long should one have to wait before pre-authorisation charges are removed totally or confirmed as charges? I've got some pending from the cruise (31/1) & one from NYC (23/1).

That depends on the policies of the card issuer, it can be as long as thirty days which is the Qantas Cash timeframe.

I'm using the VFF Global Wallet. It may be similar then. I don't quite understand how the pending thing works when it comes to this sort of thing. I understand it can take a couple of days to process so it isn't pending any more for a purchase you've actually made.

To get pre-auths quickly removed you must ensure that upon check-out they use the pre-authorisation for payment, rather then do a new transaction.

Hotels in malaysia are bad when it comes to not using offline when checking out! Not an issue with a charge card of course.

Most of my stays are pre-booked & prepaid if that matters/counts.

Pre Auths annoy me especially when you are on holidays and staying in multiple hotels and they keep taking money off your CC.

I actually ran out of CC limit on holidays once and had to pay cash for the last few days hotels. Before internet banking being so easy.

Ouch! Aside from a small purchase to force finalisation there's not much you can do without a second card.

You could always pay a cash deposit, it's surprisingly small at many hotels in terms of what they need. One of the nice things about IHG is its Elite status is recognised by many hotels who won't take a preauthorisation as a result and if they do it's normally $1.
