Happy Easter everyone!!! :p

Enjoy the long long easter break, enjoy whatever you are up to and enjoy the time off~! If you're travelling have a pleasant and safe journey~! ;) :D

An anat0l-ian ANZAC trip

On ANZAC day I'll be doing another FL run, BNE-SYD-MEL-BNE, with JQ35 being the flight to get into the SYD FL.

As well as this, I'll be overnighting in MEL at the new Hilton Melbourne South Wharf, and write a review about it.

Anyone in MEL interested in meeting up? Either on ANZAC evening or the next day for brunch?

(P.S. despite the sub-thread title, there will be no Persian rugs or gold, no Arabian incense or perfumes, no dancing harem girls, etc. etc. :p)

61. You're participating in a trivia quiz competition. The topics are:
Sports, Film & TV, Geography, Australia, History, Science, Literature, News & Current Affairs
Rank the topics from your most preferred/strongest to your least preferred/weakest.
62. What is the best hotel in the world that you have stayed at?
63. If you could get complimentary top elite status for an airline which is not a member of any of the three major alliances (oneworld, Star Alliance, SkyTeam), which airline would it be?
64. Skydiving, Gliding (hang gliding/paragliding), Hot air balloon, (non-military) Helicopter, Water plane, Air blimp, Concorde, Military aircraft (any type).
Of these, which ones have you experienced in the air?
65. Do you eat (beef) steak? If so, what is your favourite cut of steak and how do you normally like it cooked (i.e. blue, rare, well done, etc.)?
66. What is your favourite food/dish? Can you cook/prepare it?
67. Can you speak any languages apart from English? If so, list them, indicating your level of fluency.
68. What are the hottest and coldest (climatic) places you have been to in the world?
69. You're the proud owner of a new personal Boeing 737-800. How would you outfit it? (You can ignore cost considerations. No, you cannot just sell the aircraft...)
70. In your opinion, what is the best way to deal with a cold and/or flu?

61. Geography, Science, Australia, History, News & Current Affairs, Literature, Sports, Film & TV. But having said that I pretty much suck at trivia.
62. Best hotel....I think that would have to go to the Hilton Osaka. I have been impressed with the Hilton Sydney and Hilton Auckland.
63. MH (Enrich)
64. None of those. :(
65. T-bone, medium-well
66. Favourite dish...that's a tough one. I have a weakness for fried crumbed calamari, which is fairly easy to prepare. I also like many pastas; provided I don't have to make the pasta, I can prepare the tomato and pesto based ones from rote, but I have to look up how to cook the white/cream based ones. Then there are an assortment of innovative dishes I've had at restaurants which I like, but I have absolutely no hope in preparing.
67. Japanese - learnt it for 5 years in high school. I can sort of get by with what I've got.
Mandarin - learnt it for a while when I was a munchkin. Not much practice, so very, very rudimentary. I probably couldn't get around China without a good deal of difficulty.
68. Hottest - Perth (exceeds 40 degrees). Coldest - Kyoto or Osaka (got down to about 1 or 2 degrees, that's without factoring wind chill).
69. Have a nice bathroom near the back - maybe I'll get one of those EK A380 F bathrooms, just a bit bigger. Then a few nice flatbed sleeping quarters - similar to A380 suites, except with walls (rather than QF's semi-walls). Finish off with a nice lounge area with a swish bar in the middle and a large flatscreen with cinema seats - perfect for watching movies or putting on an impressive demonstration.

Hmmm....I thought too hard about this haven't I? I also think this might not fit in a 737-800, right? :-|
70. Hot lemon tea with a bit of honey, ecchinecea, Hot chicken soup, Vicks vapour rub and throat drops. Oh yeah, and sleep.....

Really, this is a totally ***off-topic*** thread

Just when you thought there couldn't be more questions..... here are more!

You know the deal: you can answer all, some or none....

71. The top ten busiest non-US airports by passenger traffic in 2008 are (world ranking in brackets):
LHR (London Heathrow, #3); HND (Tokyo Haneda, #4); CDG (Paris Charles de Gaulle, #5); PEK (Beijing Capital, #8); FRA (Frankfurt am Main, #9); MAD (Madrid Barajas, #11); HKG (Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok, #12); AMS (Amsterdam Schiphol, #14); BKK (Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, #18); SIN (Singapore Changi, #19)
Of all of these, which ones have you been to before?
72. Brace position when you can't reach the seat in front: are you actually able to put your head on your knees whilst seated and with your feet flat on the floor?
73. "This life jacket is the type with a single waist strap that clips together and tightens as shown...."
Notwithstanding that I'm unsure of how many types there are...how many "types" of aircraft life jackets have you encountered whilst flying as a passenger? (i.e. first hand, not from someone else's account, or from watching a video, etc.)
74. Apart from your home airport(s), which (a) international airport and (b) domestic airport have you frequented the most?
75. How do you pack your clothes (e.g. do you roll, fold, etc.)?
76. Do you iron your clothes (a) all before your flight (i.e. at home), (b) before and after your flight (i.e. at destination), (c) only after your flight, or (d) not at all?
77. QF AU domestic 737-800 or 737-400: which one do you prefer?
78. Describe the last time you flew a commerical flight using an aircraft which was not manufactured by Airbus or Boeing. (Exception: you may consider MD aircraft, i.e. McDonnell-Douglas, even though Boeing owns them now.)
79. Describe the longest non-stop flight (international or domestic) you have flown with a narrowbody aircraft (e.g. Boeing 737, Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Airbus A321...)
80. Of all the airlines you have not flown before, which one would you like to fly next?

61. You're participating in a trivia quiz competition. The topics are:
Sports, Film & TV, Geography, Australia, History, Science, Literature, News & Current Affairs
Rank the topics from your most preferred/strongest to your least preferred/weakest.

Science, News & Current Affairs (I'm a news junkie), Geography, Film & TV, Australia, History, Literature, Sports (my least favourite topic - I don't watch any of it!)

62. What is the best hotel in the world that you have stayed at?

Oh, hell, I'm not one for staying at hotels. I usually stay with friends in whatever city I'm in! The nicest I've stayed at was The Windsor in Melbourne.

63. If you could get complimentary top elite status for an airline which is not a member of any of the three major alliances (oneworld, Star Alliance, SkyTeam), which airline would it be?

Gotta get myself a WP first really (coming very soon - lots of DONE4s and KUPs in my future). Wouldn't know about the non-alliance programs that much - my focus has been on *A and OW. Off hand, I'd go with Emirates.

64. Skydiving, Gliding (hang gliding/paragliding), Hot air balloon, (non-military) Helicopter, Water plane, Air blimp, Concorde, Military aircraft (any type).
Of these, which ones have you experienced in the air?

Does paragliding in Fiji count?

65. Do you eat (beef) steak? If so, what is your favourite cut of steak and how do you normally like it cooked (i.e. blue, rare, well done, etc.)?

Give me a big lean rump anytime. Cook it medium rare. I never really got the whole "blue" thing.

66. What is your favourite food/dish? Can you cook/prepare it?

Far too many favourites - I'm a glutton for food (which is one of my problems - I like fresh, lean food, but I like lots of it. One of my best and easiest meals is a ridulously easy to cook spinach and ricotta lasagne which started out incredibly complicated but now only has 5 major ingredients and can be prepared in just over 15 minutes!

67. Can you speak any languages apart from English? If so, list them, indicating your level of fluency.

AUSLAN (Australian Deaf Sign Language). Although I have a deaf friend staying with me at the moment and I'm realising how without reasonable amounts of practice I've gone rusty. We're having to go back to writing things down for some things.

68. What are the hottest and coldest (climatic) places you have been to in the world?

Hottest: Australia - North Queensland. Coldest: Canada

69. You're the proud owner of a new personal Boeing 737-800. How would you outfit it? (You can ignore cost considerations. No, you cannot just sell the aircraft...)

Satellite Internet! I'd blog and videochat my way around the globe!

70. In your opinion, what is the best way to deal with a cold and/or flu?

No magic cures. Anyone that suggests otherwise is just trying to make you part with money. I try to take the time off and spend it at home (particularly important if you work in a hospital!), but I admit that sometimes there's pressure to continue working whilst sick due to shortages.

Of all of these, which ones have you been to before?

LHR only. Geez, I'm pathetic. Give me five more years and I'll be much better travelled here.

72. Brace position when you can't reach the seat in front: are you actually able to put your head on your knees whilst seated and with your feet flat on the floor?

Yes. Easily. Go back three years and I couldn't though.

None (fortunately!)

74. Apart from your home airport(s), which (a) international airport and (b) domestic airport have you frequented the most?

(a) SFO (friends) (b) BNE (family)
75. How do you pack your clothes (e.g. do you roll, fold, etc.)?

Piles of folded clothes, usually surrounding the more solid and fragile items in my baggage.

76. Do you iron your clothes (a) all before your flight (i.e. at home), (b) before and after your flight (i.e. at destination), (c) only after your flight, or (d) not at all?

I only iron clothes for job interviews and professional exams. The great joys of anaesthetics is that I can turn up to work in my gym clothes and get changed!

77. QF AU domestic 737-800 or 737-400: which one do you prefer?

Never really worried about the domestic aircraft - as long as it gets there on time.

78. Describe the last time you flew a commerical flight using an aircraft which was not manufactured by Airbus or Boeing. (Exception: you may consider MD aircraft, i.e. McDonnell-Douglas, even though Boeing owns them now.)

MD80 on AA. Didn't really care - it's was a short domestic trip.

79. Describe the longest non-stop flight (international or domestic) you have flown with a narrowbody aircraft (e.g. Boeing 737, Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Airbus A321...)

Probably the SYD-PER leg a few times.

80. Of all the airlines you have not flown before, which one would you like to fly next?

CX to LHR

None (fortunately!)

I should probably clarify this question. When I said 'encountered', it doesn't mean that you actually had to put it on. It just means you at least learnt about it through a safety demonstration that you heard whilst on board a flight. (I wanted to discount those that may actually know of the many different types, e.g. through word of mouth, watching other safety demos but not actually being on board that flight, etc.)

I'm hoping no one here has had to don a life jacket in a commercial flight in their life so far.

737-800
78. Describe the last time you flew a commerical flight using an aircraft which was not manufactured by Airbus or Boeing. (Exception: you may consider MD aircraft, i.e. McDonnell-Douglas, even though Boeing owns them now.)
BAE-146 BHX-CDG-BHX in July 2007, though have a flight on an Embraer OOL-CBR next month to look forward to:shock:
79. Describe the longest non-stop flight (international or domestic) you have flown with a narrowbody aircraft (e.g. Boeing 737, Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Airbus A321...)
There's probably loads, but the only ones I can remember in recent years have been HKG-PVG on an A321

77. Either.
78. Would have been in 2008 SYD-CBR-SYD on DJ with Embraer aircraft.
79. I don't remember flying SYD-PER on a 737 so it would have to be LAX-DCA on a 738 and WLG-SYD on a 734.
80. No great desire to fly with any of them. If I had to choose then it would be either NZ, AC, UA, LH, SK.

Well I'll be leaving New Orleans tomorrow.

If you get here, you MUST go to the 3D Imax cinema.. saw two mindblowing short films there today, one on Dinosaurs and one on ocean life.

Next stop Miami!
