MrP had a dreadful extraction too. The surgeon also had a bad reputation as we found out later. Didn't eat solids for many days and was also really unwell and in a lot of pain. Couldn't open his jaw at all. I had my one tooth removed under gas and went back to work that afternoon.

When I had my wisdom teeth extracted (or after most other dental procedures), my fear has been biting my lower lip, mainly before the LA effect fully goes away and/or the swelling subsides.

I was fortunate that my parents insisted on fluoride tablets until it was added to Adelaide water. I have yet to have any fillings.

I had 2 teeth removed from each of my upper and lower jaws to avoided overcrowding when I was about 14. The dentist was a little taken aback when I asked for a mirror so I could watch the extraction.

Wisdom teeth were through a couple of years later with no problems since.

I'm sure it's not supposed to be as bad as what I experienced, and by the sounds of it, what MrP experienced was similar. Jnr#2 had all hers out a couple of months ago. She is a dental nurse and was referred to a surgeon by her boss without any bruising or excessive pain. Jnr#1 has to undergo 4 wisdom teeth extractions too, but hers is going to be a lot more complicated given that she is on blood thinning medication for the blood clot she has in her brain. A very complicated and expensive procedure.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at Westmead Hospital back in 1984. I looked like wilbur the worm - no neck from all the swelling.
My 24 year old daughter still has baby teeth. We are all different.

Had 2 wisdoms out under GA and it was amazing. No pain, no swelling, went to work and saw patients 2 days post op and was eating pizza that night.

Single piroxicam a day only, I'm giving all credit to the surgeon.

I think it's a mix of skills plus the way in which the teeth present. Some have deep infection. Some haven't come through the gum etc etc. plus women are tougher than men ;) <running away now>

3 of my wisdom teeth came through at 17... the third at 22.

I had them all out almost immediately they appeared (no room for them, apparently). Still in awe of the right angle dental pliers the dentist used to break out the bottom pair, and the screwdriver he levered the top ones away with. All done under a local in his chair, with a doggie bag of Panadol forte (or 1985 equivalent) to see me through the night!

'tis ridiculously cold here. I have an under shirt, shirt, pullover and jacket on, plus scarf. Having just recovered from a bout of flu, I am not taking much chances. That said, I still need to keep the window to my office open to let fresh air in.

And appropriate head covering, a beanie or such??

and why not?? urban myth. there are really very few antibiotics that don't 'mix' with alcohol. of course, one shouldn't wash down your amoxil with rum - poor form really.
I cannot remember the last time I stop consuming alcohol because of medicines.

I had 2 wisdom teeth taken out ~12 years ago under general anesthetic. I also needed a small procedure to fix a botched root canal.

I told the surgeon no adrenalin as it gives me panic attacks.

I came to ~10:00am-10:30am hyper ventilating. Saw the surgeon a little while later and he told me he gave me 2 doses of adrenalin after I told him no adrenalin. I was still anxious ~9:00pm.

I don't want to go through that again.

I was basically the same. Minimal effects. Surgery were amazed that I could actually answer the phone and tell them everything was ok when they did their post op phonecall a day or two later.
