What makes you think Australia should be in the top 10?

<snip>

Methinks that wasn't the thought.

How much grog did you all consume in 2014?

Do you mean the sum total that we all drank ... or individual totals  ? If the latter, why don't you lead us off? Litres or standard drinks. :)

Low blood pressure in an otherwise fit and healthy young person is not in itself dangerous or requires any treatment. It can lead to what medics call a Vaso-Vagal syncope or lay people call a faint. The most important thing is to stay well hydrated and sit or lie down if the person feels that they might faint. Early symptoms include sweating and visual disturbance.

My vision going funny is one of my biggest clues, as not every head spin leads to a faint, but when my eyes go and then my hearing, I know I'm done. TomVexille was quite surprised last year when I told him I was going to faint, seconds before I did (lucky he's a good catch).

Too much, or not enough, depending on who you talk to :p

Note that most of the list are former USSR nations, mainly filled with vodka drinkers. But on that note, it is a per capita measure.

I thought we would have been higher based on being 2nd highest in beer consumption.

I was going for individual totals... for me, it would be lucky to scratch the surface at maybe 3-4 litres.

On beer alone, I could believe that Australia would be up there.

Digging a bit into the numbers, the report by the WHO which gives the rankings as reported in the blogpost would suggest that the numbers are in pure alcohol volumes. So drinking vodka or spirits would tally up a higher number than the same volume of beer or mixers. From there, maybe it doesn't come as a complete surprise why many of the vodka swilling nations are up on the rankings.

Really?

Let me guess a bottle of wine every 3 weeks call it 17 bottles a year - 0.75x17=12.75 l. Then, say, at least a schooner a week, 0.425x52=22.1 l. Total 34.85 l, that's not even trying.

Them figures above would have been in pure alcohol.

How do you normally handle someone who has fainted as such?

Apart from catching them so they don't break a bone or something whilst collapsing.

As cartoons have lied to me many times, I assume the answer is not a splashing with ice cold water.

I did my bit to get France off the canvas with champagne on New Years Eve. Meanwhile the French are struggling to find any work at all in the country regions.

I usually come around pretty quickly. Just need to stay laying down, cold water to drink is useful. Once th dizzies go and my blood pressure settles I'm back to normal pretty quickly.

try fainting during your friends wedding...she didn't even notice (fortunately)

I'm sure someone at work claims to be on doctor's orders to increase salt intake because of low blood pressure.

I guess elevating the legs above the head would also help for someone who's fainted.

Too much...

I saw one of my doctors on Friday (who was surprisingly working on 2 Jan)... apparently my liver will fail soon, so that probably means too much... :(:(:(:(

"based on numbero.com crowdsourced data". Now that's going to tell you the facts, isn't it?

Good to see Saudi Arabia in there with the world's 4th cheapest beer; pity Iran has the world's most expensive (and maybe the monetary cost isn't the total cost).

Saudi is actually possible. I was there oh, 20 years ago for a work trip, involving driving round the country (now THAT's a TR I'd like to write!). We hired a car and went to a grocery store for drinks etc for the road trip.

A bit stunned to see beer in cartons for sale. Oh! It was Swan Super Light (0.5% wasn't it?). So we bought a slab and happily popped a few cans en route.

That's not good.

Have you seen a gastroenterologist? I have had fatty liver for long time and saw a specialist over 10 years ago. The only advice he gave me was to give the liver a break for 3-4 days straight per week. So I did. Most times no alcohol from Monday-Thursday unless I am on holidays or special occasions.

The liver ultrasound and Fibro scan I did a few months back showed no signs of cirrhosis. In fact there's a good chance fatty liver is gone as well. And as someone who has suffered from high liver function for 20+ years that has been normal as well.

Interesting morning at "work"...they dont seem to having a very good understanding of their own EBA...

It is now just after midnight in Bolivia and about 16hrs before we leave. It's been fun but it's also time to leave. We have been taking it in turns for the last few days getting tummy bugs etc.

Fortunately Karen's Mamma and partner are doctors so there is no shortage of advice and help. Sue is currently the sick one with instructions that if she is not much better by the early hours we are to ring the nurse who will put her on a drip. Hopefully not an option that we need.
Tonight was a farewell at Mamma's with the highlight being shots of Agvardiente which is Colombian alcohol. (Literal translation 'hot water') It is just a LOT more potent than water though.
It was fun :!:

I'm still negotiating with LAN to get my errant bag back.

sounds terrible. really needs to see his regular GP soon

Saw the GP this morning. He sent us straight to A&E and pretty much chided us for not going there sooner. Hopefully the healing will be able to start soon!
