Apparently today is the day to have someone slam into the front of my car then drive off without leaving details. I saw the rear of the vehicle from the side, so no rego and therefore police cant do anything. I'm now up for the cost of the repair which is the last thing I need.

Ouch!! That's pretty dreadful :(

I had an old lady reverse into me at the lights. She didn't stop. I got her rego and just had a word to the local police. Apparently she's been involved in a few dingles so they were going to swing by her house.

Just before Christmas a woman left her trolley in a spare park and we both watched it roll smack into a car. She didn't leave details. I did on her behalf. :p. Hate it when people don't own up.

Mr Katie was discharged this morning and is now home. :)

It's the third time my car has been run into, but the previous two occasions I was in the car. I really struggle to understand how someone 'doesn't see' a bright red car. This ones come speeding down the street, gone wide on the bend and driven into the front of mine. I heard the squeaking breaks and ran out in time to see the back but no rego. The police said without the rego that they cannot do anything.

I would do a bit of detective work and go for a walk looking for CCTV, it's a lot more common these days and high res, would not be hard to get a rego number off any images, problem being the finite storage of those images.

we've been for a wander and couldn't find the car. No cctv in my little street. I do have their headlight cover though. It drove off too quickly for me to run onto the footpath and get the rego, I only saw it from the side.

and improving???

I guess enough for the specialist to discharge him. He's on oral AB for the next 2-3 weeks, back to see the specialist in 2wks.
Swelling associated with the infection has decreased according to the specialist, but may take some time to return to normal.

I hope the damage wasn't as bad as what some hit-run mongrel did to my car about three years ago when it was parked in the street outside PJM's daughter and partner's place one night when we were there for dinner. It looked like a 4WD or truck from across the road had backed into it and scraped along the side from front to back, wrecking the front fender and front and rear doors. No evidence so can't go accusing people. Fortunately I have a full no claim bonus for life so it cost me the $500 excess and had no lasting effects on my insurance policy.

Mine is is confined to the bumper but still quite a decent effort. At least the lights aren't damaged. Can't say the same for theirs, I have their headlight cover... If I claim I will lose my rating 1 assume, but if the repair cost is reasonable I will just pay for it.

For anyone who hasn't travelled by train in Switzerland before, here is an example train ride (not mine) from Milan to Geneva via Domodossola, (through the Simplon tunnel to) Sion and Lausanne.

It's actually a EuroCity service (i.e. one that crosses two or more countries) but the rolling stock is SBB-CFF-FFS (Swiss Railways).

Notice how announcements are given in three of the languages of Switzerland, plus English. In practice on most trains, the languages of communication are:
  • The language of the area where the train is currently located
  • If the train has crossed language areas, then the language of the other area
  • Either:
    • English, if it is either a tourist-heavy destination, and/or the announcer can speak English / it is announced via a robot; and/or
    • The other main third language if the train so happened to cross all areas

Arrivals at some stations (terminating or otherwise) are also announced alongside with connecting train information. Swiss Railways pride themselves on connecting train traffic: often the most common connecting trains are organised to arrive on adjoining platforms, and it isn't uncommon to have less than ten minutes between connecting services.

Oh, and FYI the author of that video can't spell "Lausanne" correctly.

Most bumpers are about $1000 to replace. At least all the bumpers I've replaced have been about that price. You could just pop out the plastic shell from behind, then touch up paint for the chip. The paint code should be on the panel inside the rim of the driver's door. Supercheap Auto or similar can provide the paint from that without a hassle.

I'm not sure red cars are easily seen. My son had a red car and was hit several times when parked.
