I like having my own desk, I actually think its important to have your own space at work.
It's not just about having a desk with your own space.

When you go on leave and come back to find someone else sitting at your desk. No idea where you are sitting. So walk around the whole floor looking to see if you can recognise anything. And you find yourself in the corner facing away from room. That was September.

You go on leave again and come back and your desk is still there. But it's now quiet. Then you find out everyone has moved again but this time tgey weren't game to move me. I was expected to move buf I didn't. That was November.

Then you go on leave again and come back to hear about changes from 3rd party. No one bothered to mention anything to me.

So sad.

I've been working 20+ yrs and only had a desk for about a year of that. And it was still in a high traffic area where anyone going past can see what I'm doing.

I do admit it would be nice to have one. If only to have a space where I can leave my stuff and come back to it. But I and almost all of my coworkers do not get a space of our own.

Stay positive, Blackie.
Made it though thr application, phone interview, two hour online test, then failed to meet some undisclosed benchmark in today's group session (but so did 8 of the 12 present).

I am looking forward to that champagne!

On the flip side a change can be just as good. I have been on secondment within the same organization but within a different business unit. Perfect time to eradicate the complacency in the first position, press a case for the promotion and job security if I end up in my former position (wish me luck, I find out some time in February whether or not I get permanency in the second position or not).
Good luck.

No chance of promotion for me but then again just having a job is enough. Closing in on 7 years. Countdown clock is on. The time is getting near to wind back the time spent at work.

7 years tomorrow with my current employer. Everyone uses my desk, I just hide the things I don't want to go walk-about, or liquid paper my initials on it, so they know it has to come back to my desk.

Engaged in some archeology of records from last century, carried about 15 kg of records from the basement over to my desk*. Got into the lift and some random member of the public says "looks like you're ready for a barrister's trolley". I hope not, that's what I'm trying to avoid!

* On the subject of desks. I'm currently sat in with the various Executive admin types. Expected to answer the reception desk during lunch breaks. Started here with an office, then moved into a shared office with a "talker" (nice bloke). Then moved to another shared office when people went on maternity leave, with the complaints officer. That's eye opening and distracting. Then moved to another desk in that office. Then moved out into current location to make way for my boss' deputy. Zero complaints. Love my work. Get more direction and supervision by working with the deputy. Boss is 110% supportive, that makes all the difference.

Nutty weather in PER over the last week and mad again tonight. Feels like living in a sauna/DRW.

We are not in a tropical zone here! I love heat but, to channel cove, I don't do steam .

I feel like an ice block that melts in this Darwin style weather in Perth. Four more days of it.

I think I see your problem. All the changes happen when you go on leave. So you have two choices:

1. Don't go on leave.
2. If you do go on leave, don't come back.
