As it so happens I have to move desk again at work.

Apparently if you shuffle people around productivity increases. Either that or management gets a power kick watching the ants in disarray.

There was a study done by General Electric about increasing the lightning increased productivity but what they found is that when the lightning decreased the productivity still went up.

In the end it was determined that the boss taking an interest in making your work place meant that you worked harder.

But take the negative approach some bosses really just want to make you work harder for less money.

QF WP, please send Mrs QF WP my best wishes.

AKA the Hawthorne Effect. Too much 'management' is about making the boss look good and being seen to do something rather than letting things go on. It's one reason I no longer aim too high and just seek a role where I do my job and walk out at the end of the day.

I'm freaking out. I've received no letters at home this week. Where are all the bills!

Seems I got your quota of bills - sheesh! I even got a reminder notice for an electricity bill, that I never received in the first place.

What happened to petrol overnight? Price went up by 25c/litre in Melbourne.

I get the impression some companies get slack at sending out bills, so when you ring up to request a bill they offer to email it to you, meaning you will never a miss a bill; but in reality saving them lots of money.

You could say something about the oil price (it may have bottomed out).

Or, if you prefer, there is a strange phenomena called a "weekend with good weather". Such events are usually correlated to increased recreational use of motor vehicles....

I got a view.

But I would rather have my quiet desk back again. The guy next to me conducts hands free phone calls all day long. <snip>
Life is cruel. Kick in the guts every opportunity.

Wow that is the height of ignorance and extremely selfish in an open plan workplace. I've been known to join in some of these conversations with choice lines such, 'no I don't have any more toilet paper over here', or 'are you going to wash your hands after using the toilet?'

Crude but generally effective.

I understand the petrol cycle, but 25 cents a litre....???

Lounge most likely somewhere in Asia; so could be Cathay First lounge in Hong Kong or even the JAL First lounge in Tokyo, both never been to, you will have to tell us the answer when we next meet and then give you a demonstration on how to add photos to AFF.
Quite likely he's back in LHR (given he did IST/LHR/ORD sectors 3 or 4 days ago) and I presume he's now flying LHR/SYD.

Another piece of news from the NT.

A LIGHT aircraft pilot has been arrested on the tarmac at Alice Springs airport after allegedly performing a “touch and go” on the top of Uluru.

NT Pilot arrested after defacing Uluru in “deeply offensive” stunt | The Betoota Advocate

I was taken in, thinking it was a real story. Find out that
The Betoota Advocate is a satirical website, run by a couple of unemployed Sydney journalism graduates with a talent for entertainment.
. Seems they have been Mediawatched ;)

Productivity. It's a difficult task.

Work not getting done therefore we need more staff. Work still not getting done therefore we need to shuffle desks. Rinse and repeat as often as required or as often as you can get away with it.

We have lost the art of management.
