My brother is the same (no fillings), but you haven't met him (and as he is the antithesis or me, I'd suggest you don't)...

Same here. I think you are the first person I have met of my 'vintage' who also has no fillings. :)

But what about your sporting pursuits?

Zero fillings until 14th year of triathlons and then eating a hamburger I bit into something solid - part of a tooth. Worse still - one of my own.

Needed a crown. Found out that dentists were about 6 years into a boom consisting of people drinking any type of sports drink and doing training/events lasting longer than 60 minutes.

The wonderful combination of slight dehydration + sports drink (liquid sugar) + concentrated saliva = TFTTQ (Or at least it was until airline competition really began).

Solution (pardon the pun) have a mouthful of water after every mouthful of sports drink.

So from never a filling to a crown to nothing since.

BTW - largest boom still under way - bottled water replacing drinking of tap water. Has seen value of a dentist practice rise 3x or more. In late 90s before sports drink boom you saw dental practices shutdown with seller no buyer at any price.

This is how I imagine a typical day for a computer guy.

There's more calories (sugar based which is worse) in a sports drink than in half a McDonalds hamburger.

I just made a Paypal purchase, it happened to be from the AFF Knowledge Centre, but I don't think that's relevant I think Paypal is the issue. Within 15 minutes the Debit Mastercard I used was cleaned out by fraud transactions. I don't keep much money in that account so the 3 transactions total about $100. I found out because the Commbank sent me a text asking if a transaction was real or fraud. The suspect transaction was $2.63 and at that stage there was only $1.98 in the account. Obviously they had tried smaller and smaller amounts until they emptied it. Now waiting for a callback from the fraud team.
Isn't this really not more a story about the potential dangers of debit cards? With a debit card the action is on your money from your account while on a credit card it's on the bank's and under Australian consumer protection law if the fraud is nit from you and proven, then you personally are not liable.

Personally I dont trust debit cards! Seems more sensible to get a CC with few K limit to use for all online orders and link that to PayPal for extra protection.

Personally we've been using booking, com with CC and Paypal for many years without issues so sounds like you have been unlucky or your computer has been hacked. Changing credentials on a PayPal account on a regular basis is an obvious security precaution.

You should also phone PayPal's Australian support to make a complaint asap. They have consumer protection system that is slow but works in the user's favour for such issues.

Not quite, I used it as a Mastercard. The same situation would apply if it was a Credit Card except it would affect the available credit for 2 -3 weeks.

Definitely a Paypal problem and not a personal computer problem. (googling shows that many billions of dollars have been hacked via Paypal)

I am happy with the resolution from Commbank, as it was a Mastercard the funds will be returned to me in the next couple of weeks.

I am with you on Debit Cards. Had a Credit Union Visa card hacked about 10 days ago, caught it after 2 transactions, but only had a low balance. I only really used it for one long standing direct debit, and for PayPal. I should say the offending transactions were not from PayPal, but direct to the "Visa" card.

Went through the whole process of cancelling the card, asking Credit Union for forms, filling them in, JP to sign (can't witness my own Stat Decs), and a Police report. All for $224.

After 48 hours I get the "good" news - Visa has agreed to return the funds, BUT there is a 45 day embargo in case they change their mind!

As soon as embargo lifted, account is going to be closed.

Gosh. When my cards were hacked (28 degrees) they caught the fraud and not me, and those removed funds were frozen and I didn't have to worry about them. No forms to fill in. And as I was about to get on a plane to London - literally - I was in the Qantas Club when they called me - a new card was waiting for me a few days later in Paris.

For the committed traveling exercise persons - In Sri Lanka there is a local brand sports drink with less than half the energy content (ie sugar) of the brand names. And at less than half the price. OTOH in Colombo, you probably need the electrolyte replenishment even if you don't exercise. :-|

Happy wandering

Fred

Wow, Commbank instantly agreed to return the money to me, nothing required on my part, except to wait a 2-3 weeks while it is processed.
