Well lets take it under 1000.I got breathalysed last night-must have been close.Took 3-4 minutes before he waved me on my way.Serves me right for being on the weagon for a month and slowing down my metabolising of ETOH.

Now this is just getting silly.

I better get to bed if I want to rest enough before hitting MEL tomorrow.

Still undecided on a backpack or not, but I'm sure I'll work it out tonight.

Well...aren't we quite the traveller :). I'm assuming you're flying DJ then......

Speaking of travel, remember the ol' joke "What's the capital of Iceland?" / "About 42 cents".

Well, I think Hilton is the only main chain that has a hotel in KEF. A night at the Hilton Nordica Reykjavik will set you back ISK 9700 Advance Purchase during early December 2009, which at current rates is just over AUD 90.

If only the airfares were as good...they aren't too cheap to Iceland. Icelandair has some good packages (e.g. ex-UK with flights + accommodation). The only problem is that of course if I book the Hilton as part of a package, I won't get any HH points for it... :(

Around £312 was the cheapest I saw when I had a quick look. Yeah pretty exy. Wonder if there are any other real options to get there...

I can get just over AUD 400 return in December (after conversion from GBP). Seems like the best option.

I've tried searching from other countries and the prices aren't any better. Then again, I only tried using SkyScanner and FareCompare - the former gives me squat all and the latter gives...mixed results....

Yeah, there is a OBR6ECON GBP99++ fare which is probably similar to what you're seeing after tax.

Although, still trying to work out what "SEASONS...... MR GI DT" translates to in GDS speak - makes little sense at the moment.

Just arrived at BNE and checked in. QF553 SYD-BNE doesn't leave until 1915 but I am done with work for the next 3 weeks, and my airport ride had a sudden rush of work so I find myself waiting here in "Zoom" waiting until my generous benefactor JohnK arrives later this evening.

I checked in so early (easy with only hand luggage) that there's not even an assigned gate! They do have the memo I asked QFF to add to my booking about exit rows, but for some reason they are locked out on my later QF21 SYD-NRT. I am in 14D for my BNE-SYD leg and presently 31A for the Japan bound.

I will try later at the service counter to see if they can reseat me for the international leg.

Wouldn't that be because check-in for this flight hasn't started in SYD (generally 4 hours before flight departure), so BNE won't be able to help you until the "window" opens??

Again, an AFF genius-brain can answer what staff member could not? Perhaps. I will see what can be done from the helpful folks at the desk around 6pm then.

In the mean time I shall watch as the dying rays of the setting sun slowly crawl across the BNE domestic tarmac and pick highlights off the dented baggage containers, Jetstar planes and the reflective strips on the ground crews high visibility vests.

Hardly much of a genius-brain, but if you wish to think that I can't stop you ;)

Now, where is JohnK, so you can get into the Business QC

Well I've already found a full service bar. Except nobody cuddled after they bent me over and took $8.25 for a bloody Cascade!!

I'll be cooling my heels until about 6ish I believe. That's okay. I'm getting phonecalls from work already. I'M ON HOLIDAYS!!! Good thing my phone will be out of range by 10pm tonight.

Well, it is $6 on board for a beer, so that's only a 25% increase ;)

Work - they'll get over it. They're ringing because they know you'll help them (until you turn it off). Then they're on their own.

Have a great trip! Hope to hear lots about your holiday.

(May or may not be a good idea at all to check AFF whilst you're on holidays.......)

As they say - work hard and play hard!

<start pseudo rant>

Two examples of idiocracy today that I've seen:

Applied for IRIS automated entry into the UK. I'm allowed to enroll based on my LTR in the UK. Immigration officer didn't want to enroll me, and didn't even know if my visa was eligible for enrollment. He asked someone else who shrugged his shoulders, and then tried to look for the operations manual. He couldn't find it, so denied me enrollment, and suggested I try again on my next trip (when I'll definately be eligible due to 2 entries to the UK in 6 months).

The operations manual is online, and it definately states that people who are allowed LTR for > 6 months are eligible. Tempted to print it out and return, but don't want to annoy him too much, as he still has the right to deny me for any reason he chooses, and if he officially denies me then it will put an interesting flag in my immigration record.

Tried entering the Cathay Lounge, but was denied due to being on a BA flight. Thanks lounge dragon "Simon". Could have argued about it, but he eventually would have denied me due to 'capacity' reasons or similar, so again not worth the bother.

Aaah it's all fun. Now in the BA Galleries lounge (which is ok, but not great) waiting for another 30 mins or so till my flight starts to board. We're being bussed out apparently (yay), which is always something fun on a trip.
