The totally off-topic thread

I can't remember from history what the sales are like, but just in case they may not have any sales covering that date, for obvious reasons....

Don't like your chances I'm afraid - tis the season to be jolly and fly lots, or something.

On a different topic .. how good is TripIt | Online travel itinerary and trip planner?? I've just started using it - incredibly handy for itineraries with bits from different sources ... but probably the best bit is being able to automagically sync it with iCal and thus my iPhone. No more manually typing flight details in to my calendar! :D

Meh, just as I might have suspected.

At least if I know this then I can stop delaying booking and know that the prices as they are now won't get any lower.

No chance for QANTAS. Emirates have a sale for that date (from BNE/SYD), though. Should get you to the Waimarama Do in time...

Not a problem, I'll use Amex points+pay. I'm prepared to wear a bit of pain on the MR balance for some points, SCs and F Lounge use.

One sensible question followed by a sort-of silly but curious question...

1. I'm thinking of booking a LA TT flight in Economy. The cheapest fare books into class code N. According to QF's airline earn table, this is classed as "Economy". It doesn't say "Discount Economy". Does this mean that my meagre fare garners full Y SCs (i.e. for a AKL-SYD flight, that would be 40SCs?)

2. What do flight scheduled departure and arrival times really mean?

For the departure time, if a flight is scheduled to depart at say 1200h, does this mean:
  • The time when the gate closes and no more pax are supposed to be accepted for boarding
  • The time when the aircraft is pushed back
  • The time when the aircraft takes off

And for the arrival time, does it mean:
  • The time when the aircraft touches down on the runway
  • The time when the aircraft reaches the gate and is docked

I would be extremely surprised if you receive full WHY SCs. I think Qantas only distinguishes between Discount Economy and Economy if the airline involved has different FF points earning ratios for lower booking classes and full FF points for full economy.

As far as I am aware scheduled departure is when the aircraft pushes back from the gate and scheduled arrival is when the aircraft arrives at the gate.

Don't get confused. I posted an answer to a very similar question in a LAN thread only about a week ago. Search it out (I can't at the moment!).

It's discount economy, my reasoning is in that thread.

I'll ammend my post later if I find my old thread.

Aaah I see what you're getting at. For all oneworld international flights, the only Economy bucket which credits full economy is Y.

Hmmmm...damn confusing Airline Earning Table. It's almost bleating obvious too since a careful inspection of the LA section of the table shows erroneously that as much as I thought N might have been credited as full economy, there appears to be no distinction of earn between buckets N and Y, which we know is pretty close to b*** s***.

Yeah, that's basically the reasoning. I can't find the thread I posted into, but the important thing to note is the comment here:
Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Status Credits
# For domestic flights within Australia, Economy includes Fully Flexible (classes Y, B, H) and FlexiSaver (class K and W). For international flights, Economy is class Y. For travel on oneworld Alliance airlines or Air Pacific, Economy is class Y. For flights on Jetstar, Economy includes travel on Jet Flex fares. For flights on British Airways, Economy includes travel on World Traveller Plus fares.

The table needs re-writing to make it more clearer for people - but basically, any flight outside of Australia (or International to/from Australia) will only earn full Economy SC's if booked in Y.

Who would have thought St Kilda would beat Hawthorn with 8 players out. Every chance of going through the season undefeated....

Well here I am sitting in a hotel room in Hong Kong, listening to the BBC's coverage of the 4th Ashes test over the hotel WiFi internet access and watching the Lions play Essendon on the Aussie TV channel and drinking a cold Guiness. What a multi-cultural world we live in.

And reading AFF it seems, are the Aussies winning.

Just booked a J classic award HKG-SYD yesterday. Once again, WP request has come in handy. Managed to get 11A selected as well (after somehow only being offered 18A at first at the time of booking; went into QF MMB the next day, added my QFF number then managed to snag 11A).

Can I just also add that there are some very lovely people working in Qantas premium? Helpful, easy to talk to and professional. I've had to talk to three of them this week. All of them a pleasure to deal with.

I know this is a corny comment post, but I wouldn't post this if I wasn't overly impressed.

Indeed, the best season as a St Kilda supporter since I was a very young tacker. :D I remember the days in the bog at Moorabbin where 19 wins was about five seasons worth.

Another interesting point, it was mentioned on the live FTA telecast into Canberra yesterday (first of the year I believe, even the Swans matches have been on delayed telecast) that St Kilda is the first team to win at all interstate (from Victoria) venues in the one year.

A good post to use my 400th.
