Does anyone take DVT medication to reduce the chance of blood clots on longhaul flights?

A Guy has found an memory card in Stockholm that has over 4.000 pictures from a couple he thinks are from Melbourne.

I lost a camera about 3 years ago; when I got the next camera the first thing I did was take a photo of my business card so that if anyone were to return it at least there is an address, the phone number is out of date but the email and mobile are still current.

I remain surprised at how many of us have no will, no Binding Death Agreement for their superannuation, no provision for their affairs to be handled in the event of a stroke or other major health calamity.
No one lives forever despite major drug advances and life is not a dress rehearsal.
It is embarrassing to have had various Federal and State Governments bugger up Australia with budgets where they told us it would not be a problem. Well now it is a problem.

While I have both my parents still alive then they can work it out, I just save the money, once they die then it will be a different story, much more important if you are married or have children, I do have a plan but its still coming together, but if I or anyone else dies in the mean time well it will have to change. :(

Australia started the superannuation savings system over 2 decades ago and so many of the participants are arranging their affairs to qualify for the age pension because they can. One or two more decades should give more opportunities to wean more Australians off the age pension.
My superannuation is doing ok of late,

I want to buy a house in Sydney. So I've decided to become the Treasurer of Australia. It's a good job that pays good money.

My employer will even pay for my wife's investment property.

Oh you have been reading too much Facebook; what is that suggestion I made over the weekend. "there should be a button, for that is the stupidest thing I have read all day.

Stupidity is clearly the sole selection criteria for my new job. Thanks for the reference.

Is it necessary to mention that any stupidity in my comment is proportional to the stupidity of the comments that prompted my post.

I would warn against keeping insurance out of it. In my experience that results in a cheaper quote but also lower quality work.

Suggest telling the panel shop that you'll be going via insurance. Then at least you'll have a full priced quote.

Definitely keeping my options open. And I should have the time to chase it at the moment.

Have you always wanted to be a cleaner? Join the nearest AWU sheltered workshop near you ... and have your wages/conditions traded for sly cash and extra votes in a party you never wanted to be a part of  We pay an extra special bonus for netballers (only if wearing the uniform) ;)

Compression stockings are suggested but my GP and Google medicine search suggests that preventative medications are of limited value for DVTs. But my degrees are not in medicine so perhaps some more specialist opinion based on peer reviewed longitudinal studies would be good.

Aw no, medhead. Don't become federal treasurer or PM. We'd miss you on AFF.;)

Maybe just an AFF party for the Senate? Few million bucks for 6 years and SFA responsibility, except lobbying for AFF members of course. And of course as an AFFP representative you'd be expected to do lots of travel in F and J each year, solely to serve your constituents, employ your partner and children, if any, in the office,... - sorry I digress.

Some of our cleaners at work are bloody hard working. Obviously they must be getting good money. Thinking back to some of the hardest work I've ever done, john Howard paid me $36 a day. Hard work pays off.

I'm sure I can combine both together. Making stupid comments and entertaining AFF.

The DVT stopping medication is Rivaroxaban or Xarelto.
Any traveller tried this? It is an anti coagulant so there would be an issue if you were in a crash.
I have compression travel stockings and they work.

Aspirin? would that be just as good?

If you have no other risk factors Xarelto is definitely not indicated.Risk of bleeding would outweigh benefits of preventing clots.
If you don't have a reason to be on long term anticoagulants then Low molecular weight heparin by injection is usually the medication used in high risk patients.
Compression stockings have been shown to be very useful.
Aspirin is of no benefit.

Last leg of my whistle stop tour coming up. So far 3/3 in scoring an empty seat next to me in whY on this journey. Fingers crossed for 4/4 then straight home and to bed ready for work tomorrow!

For those of you who were playing at home ... it was 4/4. Got a beep at the gate, new BP issued. There's a small mini cabin at the back of the upper deck on the QR A380; seems like they block it then at the last minute if the flight is looking full move their status pax up there with a person:seat ratio of ~1:3.

Thanks drronn for your input on DVT. Have had 2 experience DVT and everyone said aspirin is of no help. My wife was prescribed this medication (Xarelto) because she is traveling 4 days after knee surgery so I became curious. She has worn compression stockings on long haul flights for years so I am pleased she is on the right track in normal times. She seems to be coping ok with my lack of cooking skills so far.
I remember having heparin injections post bypass surgery almost 21 years ago and I felt like a dartboard.

I am going to cross post here.

I posted this picture on the "View from my Office" thread of a boat in a lagoon near our beach shack on the River Murray mouth. It is a tiny town, doesn't even have grocery shop. No chemist. Post Office etc etc. Within an hour of me posting the photo another AFF'er (newbie?) said their brother and Fiancee were on the boat. Small world.

And the photo is just as good the second time around!
