Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage

Come on now lads, keep this thread on topic!

Are you saying my last post wasn't on topic? :-|

FWIW, although this thread is naturally negative, we seem to be seeing more businesses declining Amex compared to taking it up.

Come down to Sale. It's pleasant though a little windy. :D

The forecast for this afternoon isn't so good though. :(
Was playing golf at Trafalgar GC, Encountered first portents of heavy rain around 10am, cleared up a bit but had set in by 2pm - thankfully watching from the clubhouse ...

If anyone is thinking of getting mobile broadband stay away from it.

Youtube has stopped working for me and I need to re-install latest version of Adobe Flash Player again even though the latest version is already on my laptop. I have been trying to download Adobe flash player for 3 days now without success.

If there is anyone with my email address and you have a few minutes spare I would greatly appreciate it if you could email me the Adobe Flash Player install file. It is only 1.87mb....

We have 2 Voda cards atm, and aside from not being able to get my gaming consoles online its the best thing we've ever done...

As an aside - i go for my MRI tonight so I'm looking forward to seeing the results of that just so that there can be an end to all this sitting around doing nothing, it's not very good for the waistline let me assure you!

Good work sir!

In regards to the above questions, I believe the term is "I'm not going to touch that one with a 10 foot pole:!:"

Mmm in the context of the questions you were responding to, this post comes off as a bit of an irony. :p

My moronic interactions with a certain UK bank continues.

After they didn't return a phonecall about my Credit Card appln (after losing paperwork that was faxed to them from one of their own branches), I am very close to closing off my accounts with that bank and trying another.

I get a phonecall yesterday which was an invitation to join their private banking area of the bank. Yep, they think I'm a cashed up whale who they can assist to get my finances on track and bring more business to the bank. Of course I told them I'm interested, and will give my 'Personal Account Manager' a "please explain" as soon as they give me a call.

Morons.

On a positive note, am spending the rest of the week in Warsaw. A nice town :)

Oy gevalt - I'm hoping not all the English are that dumb. And here I was under the impression that Australians were 'less refined' than our counterparts in the Mother country....

What the hell am I saying......... :-| :-| :-|

Live over there for a while, and you will find that incompetence is a national trait. -- a lot more than any incompetence you will find in Australia.

At what point do personal calls in the workplace become over the top? 5, 6, 7, 10 or more calls a day? How about when the same people are making 5, 6, 7, 10 calls a day, everyday?

I have never been a fan of open plan offices but the current working environment is the worst I have ever encountered. I have never come across so many people who have absolutely no consideration for the people around them. Thay take their normal 30 minute lunch break away from the office then come back to their desk and have lunch and make personal phone calls one after the other.

Manager could not care less even though our targets were stretched at the recent yearly review. I have already had one written warning for losing the plot. Can't afford another warning. I need to bite my lip and put up with it for a little bit longer....

I'm in an open plan space supplemented with offices. It's not unusual to hear conversations all over the place - whether it be on the phone or face-to-face contact - and about 10-20% of it is personal stuff, and of that personal stuff then about 3% of that is phone banter.

How much is too much? I'd rank it on time and frequency, but unless there was a big reason for it, I'd say 5 personal calls is really, really "pushing it". That needs some qualification obviously, but I'm too tired right now to put together even a contrived case.

At the very least, take personal calls on your mobile and outside the office. I do this (step outside) mainly to avoid disruption, but why should the entire office know what you are doing (like why, when, where and how you are booking that next award flight in J :))....

I thought management - being stereotypical bean counting as they are - would be a lot more stricter than that. There's an idea - itemise and timestamp the calls then bypass your manager and go straight to the company accountant with a business case as to how much company time and resources is being wasted in personal calls (don't forget this figure includes both the actual just making the calls, the loss of productive time of the caller and the loss of productivity of those negatively affected by disruption). Tell them you've got a great idea on how to both cut running costs and boost productivity.

Just an idea, though - I don't like penny-pinching bean-counting any more than the next red blooded human being, but.........

Open plan offices definitely have their downsides. If it won't interfere with your work, a decent pair of headphones and an iPod full of good working music might help..

Quickly, is there any designated smoking areas airside at SYD T1? I don't know as I don't smoke and never had to look for one, but the person I am travelling with this Sat does.

None Airside.
Services and Amenities
Smoking Area

Smoking is not permitted inside of the terminal, we have accommodated the needs of smokers by providing designated smoking areas that are located outside of the building on the departures and arrival roadway.

What's happened to this thread. That's almost 12 hours without a suitable off topic response. Very disappointing...
