Cold but clear and calm in southern Tassie today, so I got into the garden. Mattocked-out overgrown spikey leaved ornamentals in the courtyard and replaced with a lemon, a mandarin and a lime in new spiffy looking pots. Took the chainsaw to a couple of old acacias along the side fence, mulched the soil around and in went some nice flowering shrubs. Dug out rangy old shrubs in tubs on the balcony and now there's a fine array of kitchen herbs. Even the fish pond got a spring clean.

Completely buggered.

But ... wanna see some of my leucadendrons (from last year)?

Don't most most people call them proteas, RF ;). Very nice, though!

Thankfully, gardening is totally forbidden in my post-divorce life :).

What type of lime?
We have a double grafted Tahitian and Kefir.

Tahitian. Tried hard to get the same double-graft, but not available.

They are in the Proteaceae family, but not 'proteas' as I think most people would think of them. Actually the ones I showed are Leucospermums.

Here's another gratuitous photo:

Anyone have a sure fire 'recipe' for making newly picked black olives, edible? Saltiness of water, days in soaking, number of changes/day of water, to score or not to score the olives ....

When I was in Jordan, I asked a local. All I can remember is that the water should be salty enough to make an egg buoyant.

The secret is in using the right type of salt.

This video may help:

Thanks :). I'm doing the brine method currently, but if that bombs, the dry salt is good to go for next year.

A win by Fremantle Dockers keeps them at the top of the ladder, can't have the other West Australian team being top, one of my friends calls them the West Coast Whingers. LOL
Although both of those teams need to watch out for the 3rd place team Hawthorn who flogged Sydney tonight by 89 points, makes Fremantles 72 point lost the previous week respectable.

Booked our Christmas holidays a few weeks back now - traipsing over to India, so should be interesting. Weather should be a little more bearable too!

This is often onky easily understood by people in the same situation, JohnK. I'll explain it to you some time in person.
i'm enjoying the air of mystery for the moment. :p

If you are an "only" child, one would assume that both or either of your parents remarried but into established families. Because even half siblings would mean your "only" child status wouldn't apply anymore ?

Not really. I'm my mums only child and have been raised as such.

They are from Victoria and support Melbourne, West Coast Eagles weren't even around when they started watching football, good to see both WA teams doing well. Melbourne play Brisbane this afternoon should be a close match.
