Only way I can see the logic is like this...
A short haul International award flight (heck, any short haul flight) is 4000 Avios. This is a zone 1 Economy redemption in
off peak (peak and off peak were introduced after the latest BA round of changes), one-way.
Now 20 of these... 5 for each of your mob (since there are four of you). That means 5 x 4000 = 20,000 Avios.
If you were to fly SYD/LHR
return trip on BA and credit it to BA, you would earn (assume no splitting in Singapore):
- Cheapest Economy: 5282 Avios and 60 Tier Points as a Blue; 26,410 Avios and 60 Tier Points as a Gold.
- Full Fare Economy: 21,130 Avios and 240 Tier Points as a Blue; 42,260 Avios and 240 Tier Points as a Gold.
You do not earn any Avios or Tier Points on Avios redemptions.
You picked my mistake! Thanks.
20 short haul Int award flights for a €1111 spend ... sounds like a great deal - is it true?
<
How did you get the € symbol?>
I had read your flights as departing Australia, thought LIN was a regional airport code within Aust. (cough/U/MEd - sorry). Was rushing through a few threads and did not check. So not as lucrative for you as I had imagined - though as anat0l calculates still pretty good!
Had worked it out with off-peak short haul fare redemption ==> you could get 5 short haul international redemptions plus a small cash amount for 'fees & charges' (
that really are F&Cs not like Q padding). This includes checked-in bags etc. <
was using AVIOS earn on our whY rtn flights, surprised that for what was a cheap fare included LGWINN and MUCLHR flights got top points>
With the points from 1 SYDLHR rtn in whY I booked 5 MUCLHR one way in whY on the 'business mens' flight' dep MUC 16.00 arr LHR 17.00 BA discount short haul international flights in their points redemption scheme.
This is one case where we win --- BA off-peak season for BA intra Europe matches peak demand for Australians on school holiday!
So I multiplied your 4 passengers by 5 short haul international redemptions to get 20 flights.
Always had the opinion you had to checkin to garner the status benefits ... didn't know you could (self) amend a booking after checkin...
We have not checked in yet (and neither have you unless I misread your op?). We have booked & paid for the flights some weeks back now.
With the BA 'Manage your booking' you can enter loads of information - seems like just about everything EXCEPT change of name details. ().
Seems I was wrong about earning points/status for redeemed flights though.
Yes, I do have to cut and paste their BAEC numbers in, and passport details....
Normally done when some other task is overdue...
However, I do see that I cannot change my BAEC number (thank $%$# for the preview mode, new image being worked on).
If you've entered the Q#s then it is possible you'll need a friendly call centre soul. If you call in UK time then you can get UK based call centre staff
.
From BA's perspective it is likely more profitable for them to give you AVIOS points than to pay Q for FF points, also I'd really try for the status match over the phone.
If you don't ask - you'll never get it!
