This Brisbane living is no good for my health, 3rd major cold/flu virus this year.

When you do pull the pin on a non important flights, I was supposed to be flying to Perth this weekend to watch the football, have the tickets both for the flights and the game, I have a place to stay(not hotel) so how late do I leave it before canceling it.

One option was to fly to Perth in the morning, watch the game and get back on the plane and fly back in the evening, pity Perth is so far away.
Part of my worry is I might nearly be better but then pass on the cold to someone else.

Its just one of those things in life where some things just don't work out and not a lot you can do about it.

I did read that Buddy Franklin the Sydney Swans player will miss the game against Fremantle due to a mental health condition, I think all the players and the team understand his health is more important than the game itself.

I had the flu shot this year. First time ever. Had an unwell week afterwards but realised I haven't had even a sniffle this year. Probably coincidence.

Yes coincidence most likely. Come to BNE. This strain was not included in the original flu vaccines for this year. ;)

" The Brisbane strain has accounted for 27 per cent of influenza B cases in the year to August 23. Usually a second strain of influenza B only accounts for about five per cent."

No, not sarchastic, or sarcastic either :) . Just posing the genuine question as to whether gliding - like sugar glider, or a person with a glider suit could be considered 'mechanical' flying. If you step off a cliff ordinarily, you plummet. If you step off a cliff with a glider-suit thing, you glide (a bit). Is the gliding suit a 'mechanical' aid? I think it is.

I don't think you can read new definitions into glide, fly, or mechanical where I've simply asked a question. Social media - sure, I have my own definition, same as I do for public transport. A thin old dictionary, but then again, I am an award winning author ;) (and you'll have to wait till we catch up again for that to be revealed!)

Seriously, try googling Sarchasm.

Most definitely wasn't saying your post was sarcastic.

Seems rather dire KLIA right now, in the regional MH lounge. Could not find a glass for water. They've run out of beer and are waiting for a restock.

I first had the flu shot in 1999. I have had the flu 3-4 times since. I used to get the flu at least 3 times a year and would lose around a week of work each time.

Had it once, when I was travelling long-term (doctors orders). Haven't had it otherwise. Then, I've never had the flu either. Bad colds, yes. Flu, no.

I have never had the flu in my life that I can recall - colds, yes, but not anything that has confined me to bed or given aches and pains that people describe as flu symptoms. Certainly I never took a day off work for anything remotely resembling the flu in over 40 years.

My GP twisted my arm to start having flu shots in the last year or so (not that I was resisting; it just seemed so abstract to me). He's right, of course - preventative medicine is the best medicine.

I guess the clean living I practice is a concept alien to most other AFFers :p:mrgreen::shock:.

I've never had the flu. Just a cold maybe once a year. MrP had dreadful flu a couple of years ago. Very ill.

Try under the counter/bench to the left of the orange juice dispensers. As for the beer, do you have time to head to the satellite terminal?

Despite my frivolity, I do feel for people who are susceptible. Partner JohnM has been flattened by it in recent years. I hounded her to get the jab this year - but she still got the flu. There was a strain issue, I believe.

Never had a flu shot, and been years since I had a cold. Sinus yes. But then I have very little physical contact with anyone. Pass the parcel at the Post Office and hand over the bank book about twice a week. So, everyone going to Cairns - bring your best health with you please.

I find my colds are less severe the years I get the flu shot. Unfortunately I got the flu before I got the shot this year and it was terrible. Wont be doing that again if I can help it. Took almost a month to recover.

The flu, or a cold? Unlikely to get flu 3 times a year I'd imagine...

I had time. In SIN now heading back. Was told no beer on the flight from KUL as well. SIN golden lounge is closed so got to try the SATS lounge - beer and massage chairs. Didn't try the BA lounge as I only had 30 minutes to change terminals, once the cancelled flight was sorted out. My heart isn't suited to multiple international flights in a day. Also I didn't want MH to get billed for the lounge visit.

Things seem really dire. Nothing even like the Qantas grounding nonsense.

This is such a hoot. If you received the "community newsletter" last week, I had a few lines about my favourite threads. BUT my first comments were:
Will I get shot down if I say AFF for me is like Facebook – but for grown-ups?

They decided not to include that line, and now here we are discussing it.

Is the word you're searching for - Karma?

Don't worry about it ...
It would seem that only one person thinks that some social media isn't social media.

Quite right? - does that mean it is social MEDIUM?

Perhaps it can be resolved (before the electrons rebel) along these lines:
>

  • Option A - Just like there are reputable newspapers and trash - the same is true for social media. AFF is reputable, facebook et al are trash

  • Option B - Forums, blogs and other methods of publishing (electronically) that do not enforce, or make it easy for the enforcement of, true socially accepted rules should be renamed Anti-Social media. AFF would then fit neatly in the pigeon-hole of social media.

  • Option C - Any web-empowered set-up that make's the founders' billionaires is obviously too trashy and low brow to be mentioned in the same breath as AFF.

Voting has now opened - no social(media)ism here - First-past-the-post - One vote solely!

No, I would use coincidence for this. Karma for me is more personal, what goes around, comes around and I am a firm believer in Karma.

Me too. Helps to rationalise some of the bad stuff that you have no option to deal with in the manner you might really want to.

Sounds like doublethink to me. What would Winston Smith say?:)

ps About dictionaries and opinion and fact. Remember when Macquarie Dictionary rushed out a new definition of misogyny after a certain politician's speech? One day the dictionary said one thing about the word. The next week it had changed! Did the facts change suddenly, or Macquarie's opinion about the word?

No, just that their sales team smelt an opportunity too big to pass up.

The opportunity?

Getting an order from the Fed Gov to provide a new dictionary for every public school child in Australia - with the book mark/ribbon inserted on a specific page.

Now what page would that have been?
