When did a "NO SMOKING" sign become an invitation to light up?

When it's directly in front of a hospital apparently....

I have found that some smokers are illiterate and only recognise the picture of cigarette in the no smoking signs. They then think they are allowed to smoke there.

Oh and ashtrays are targets where butts are thrown at rather than inserted into.

Agree! I was gobsmacked at the number of butts lying on the ground outside the kids hospital, RIGHT IN FRONT of the no smoking signs.

Worst I saw was a dad walking into Ronald McDonald house with his cancer stricken child, puffing away....

ING or UBank TD for 3% very safe. Bank shares, Telstra, Sydney airports etc, 6% fully franked. More risk but seems safe enough for us with many thousands of $$$. But YMMV.

Safe is a transitory thing. CBA was above $90 not that long ago. A 6 or 7% div yield is for a year. The $15 loss for those who bought a few months back wipes out over 2 years of dividends. Many other large caps have suffered the same.

The brokers were touting BHP for div yield (aka getting some commissions for themselves in the process).

Shares are a mild form of the casino.

If you do not like the idea of losing 15-20% in a few weeks then shares are not the way to go.

True, 3% (about the highest around) on cash with several banks may not be exciting but your principle is not at risk.

Compare with Q - good bounce thanks to 'interesting' accounting treatment of plane valuation being written off (causing huge tax benefits) but long term - no listed airline has EVER been a good investment.

Walked to my desk in the office this morning to find the computer mouse gone. That's to go on top of the constant adjustments to my chair when I am not here.

Can't wait to stop working so I can get away from these pigs. Am I being harsh?

If you have a HR complain about the chair adjustments as it reeking havoc with your back and that the company failing to meet its OHS requirements.

Come on now, those patients who are in hospital for amputations due to circulatory problems can't travel far and they need their smoke hit[SUP]*[/SUP]!

* this is actually a very sad situation. But it always gets me that people are out the front sucking in the "fresh air", which has caused them to be there having lower limbs cut off in the first place.

I was being somewhat flippant but it's an extraordinarily complex problem - and so extraordinarily addictive quitting is really hard. But one still wonders about the healthcare expense incurred when the best treatment for many would be to stop....

Presumably the other occupant(s) of the chair should complain similarly, unless they are happy to adjust the chair?

I had to label my Stapler, and I also find my chair lowered at times. But so far the mouse has not scurried away.

Awful. At the Adelaide Womens and Children's Hospital in the North Adelaide Parkland - women with 8 month pregnant bellies attached to a drip, fa_ging away.

But if its not their chair, they shouldnt be sitting in it/using it.

If its company supplied equipment, I think its fair that other people can use it.

The decent thing to do of course, is to return all borrowed items to their original position, this includes positioning monitors, plugging in borrowed cables/plugs, adjusting the chair to somewhat what it used to be. If something is needed, get the office manager to find a permanent solution.

When I worked for Caltex we had Tapolene to top up batteries. On other things fuel, I remember those after hours places where you put 20c pieces into a coin operated bowser. The last one I remember was on Silverwater Rd Silverwater, Fleet IIRC.

One of these?

Funny you mention HR.

I found out early on in this job that HR is an employee of the company and not there for the employee.

John, Rule No. 1 when dealing with HR - its a function that is there to protect the interests of the business.

I had to label everything at my old job. Swapping to hot pink post it notes seemed to stop them going walking...

Not really. People are often assessed by OHS and provided with equipment suitable for their needs and a chair can be one of these. And anyway, any office should have enough chairs so that each staff member has one of their own. Can't imagine just wandering into my bosses office and nicking the chair even though its much nicer than mine...

Anyone got a Cheap Golf going\selling with all this rubbish about pollution standards?
Must be to divert the DOW slide.

I wonder if it would be possible for a VW owner to drive the car back to the dealer and ask for a full refund as it was not the vehicle that was advertised? Even if it was a year or two old.

How many cars actually meet their fuel consumption claims? I am sure there is a disclaimer somewhere stating buyer beware.

Precisely, and the big warming words are "injury", I would also go further and suggest changing seat setting, taking mice, etc etc are all forms of workplace bullying. Based on posts here, it is ongoing systemic bullying, not a one off to be explained away. That = stress leave and big compo payments.

Hopefully, all the history is documented.
