Anat01 although there must be spice in a curry it doesnt have to be hot.Chilli is not an essential part of a curry-though many think so.In Laos I was able to introduce mrsdrron to the finer tastes of curry at our cooking class-the woman conducting it actually listened to her and the red curry we cooked had the barest minimum of chilli.I felt the other spices were so much nicer in taste when not overpowered. As for mrsdrron she will now try other curries such as a nice mild Mussaman curry.

Agreed. The best curries are the ones that aren't hot at all. So much more flavourful that way than having your mouth burning and all you can feel at the end of the night is the burning sensation and a very full bladder. :p

If I could change one thing in my life, I'd spend the time I spent watching that movie on either another movie, or some other task...

I read the book and it's fantastic. I was sobbing by the end of it. Looks like another movie that isn't as good as the book? But I'll still go watch it cause it's got Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana in it. :p

Duly noted. It's a case of having some. In other words, it is extremely difficult to balance it off (as it is also very much person-by-person thing), but flavour and having some element of hot in the curry are something that I think are characteristic. I agree it is pointless having a curry so hot (even if you can tolerate it) that you can barely taste the rest / enjoy the rest of your meal. But to not have it there at all makes curry just a bit pedestrian.

The "right" amount of spice to add to a curry - being a personal thing - is a complicated one of course. It's not like cracked pepper, where you can almost tell how much you want or not.

I guess I was more picking on QF009, whose (hyper?)sensitivity to spicy, hot or peppery foods are noted. :p I had a look at the Gourmand menu on offer at Rasoi, and it seems everything will have some sort of kick to it.

I agree with this, but there is no industry standard for hotness. You can never tell from a menu whether something is mild, medium or hot (and it's even worse when you're verbally asked the same question!) - because everyone (and in particular certain cultures) have different ideas of what is mild, medium and hot.

Spicy food, creamy/cheesy foods and a few others can play up with my digestion. I still love them (although have been toning down on really spicy foods in the last little while), so try not to have them too often or in large amounts. It's a pity, because I like them all !

Hence I'll emphasise, repeatedly if I have to, "extra, extra mild" and "less chilli" and have a jug of yoghurt on the side on standby. And plenty of bubbly. ;) Worked wonders on my last Indian (or maybe it was Nepalese?? not sure) meal a few months ago, the "kick" was removed entirely but not the aroma. :)

Apologies, but I feel the need to rant for a moment having just got off the phone with steam coming out of my ears.

Nokia, please take your handsets and die a very quick death.

I'm sorry, but when your 'care line' staff actively recommend that I downgrade the firmware on my Nokia N97 to deal with the fact it still thinks WA is in daylight savings time - you're off your rocker.

Oh, and let's not forget the v12 firmware you want me to downgrade to is virtually unusable, unstable and would make the phone worse than it already is.

I feel sorry for the service agent I just berated the cough out of for five minutes straight, because he's just likely following a computerised question workflow - but when you buy a handset with an Australian RRP of 1.1k+ you expect that it'll do the job its supposed to do.

Thanks to their continued incompetence and buggy high-end handset releases, Nokia has just lost another 14 year customer and former loyal advocate. Roll on Android.

Note: I didn't pay anywhere retail for the handset, I'm not that silly.

I do realise i am asking for a on topic reply but i am struggling to find some real world answers. I want to make the plunge and get an iMac. the 27" screen and awesome mouse tipped me! What i want to know is what sort of programs do i need to make the transition a smooth one? I currently use office which i would like to continue with if possible and i would like the Small Business version if there is one. I also use MYOB, and would like this to continue. If i can run the same file type as the windows version i would prefer it. I have it stored in the cloud now and access it from 4 different computers depending on where i am at the time and would like the same thing on the Mac. I also use Google for my calendar and email and also my boys emails and calendar so anyhting that lets that work well im open to. Aside from that i would like to share the fiels on the mac to the 3 other windows puters and an Xbox360 and PS3 and possibly a Tivo in the not too distant future...

Possible?

I suppose they were deemed inappropriate and promptly flushed away...

I hope not:!:

Surely no one could take offense at something Sam posted, he seems so friendly:).

Oh well I guess we need to move on and not ponder on the things we have left behind.

Is now back in the UK; for the third time in 10 days it almost feels like home.

I head back to Australia on Thursday evening via Hong Kong.

It was great to catch up with Mal; Anat0l and Flashware on Sunday.

Likewise.

A big thanks to Mal also for going with us to Jamie's (Oliver) Italian, then to a show at the West End this afternoon and generally guiding us around!

Indeed, it was good to catch up as well and have a mini-AFF do/meeting. 4 makes a quorum doesn't it :)

I'm now out-dinnered after heading out for dinner on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and tonight. Thanks Anat0l and Flashware for the company - and I'm glad we managed to find reasonable places each night!

Anat0l and Flashware - Enjoy your early morning wake-up!

Oh I will.. just finished packing. All I have to do now is wake up, jump in shower, get dressed, pack toiletries into suitcase (and PJ's) and roll over to the station! :p
