That photo came out bigger on desktop than I expected (posted from phone).

Yes - will be a v.classy affair

I have had no luck with any of the eyedrops supposed for allergies; they sting my eyes terribly and I end up redder and more sore than before. I just use good old Visine Advance.

There is a funny story here Dame. When I got off the QM2 in Brisbane my eyes were sore so before we caught up with QFWP I ducked into the chemist shop for some drops. I bought two lots - one for immediate relief but only to be used for 3 days or it made the eyes red! and the other for daily use. Of course, the longer the cruise went on, that distinction blurred and I realised to my horror on I think even a formal night, I looked in the mirror and my eyes were almost glowing red! Sigh, I reckon people around the table that night thought I had been crying and missing the family. Well, I did miss them but heck we had a lot of fun that cruise hey?

That was a great cruise. Must say I don't remember your red eyes (weeping again were you?). Perhaps I didn't hear you with only one hearing aid.

Life's merry go around. It'd be boring if it was predictable?

I would take predictable over potentially catastrophic. :(

So I am using my back up computer at the moment.Hate it because I uploaded Windows 10.But a strange thing on AFF-my avatar has gone back to about 3 ago.
Or have I been hacked by JohnK?;)

You're safe drron! Couldn't hack my way out of trouble if my life depended on it.

Realised we usually have no choice over catastrophic sometimes.
Sure we don't. It's still a worry though when one bad thing follows another in quick succession and you're powerless to change the outcome. And even when you get out of harms way you're still not safe.

At last...my chance to make a lot of money.

Interesting and essential work. ;) :)

August 9 is Census night and the ABS has requested assistance from the AEC to find up to 38,000 motivated and community minded people across Australia to join their team and work on the 2016 Census.

Census Field Officers:

- are temporary casual jobs, with flexible working hours
- are responsible for making contact with households to ensure everyone can complete the Census
- will earn $21.61 per hour (inclusive of 25% loading)

Are you interested in working on the 2016 Census?

Awful pay rate for the flack you cop. Plus imagine doing this in a high crime rate suburb!

Sharing satellite image of Nauru.

The airstrip is visible at the bottom.

Awful pay rate for the flack you cop.

We were never belligerent - physically or verbally - to our census officers; my impression is that they went around the rest of our community similarly unscathed.

This year may be different due to the change in privacy policy re: data in the census.

Plus imagine doing this in a high crime rate suburb!

Depends - maybe the people in said suburb don't want to fill a census anyway.

On a more "tame" setting, I'd be more concerned about those properties with fences and a sign like, "Beware of the Dog". How do these properties work when other "genuine" people decide to pay a visit, e.g. police?

They have no choice. They have to complete it. Which is where the trouble lies.

Well, it seems that the census is going online anyway, and paper census packs must be requested.

So, if I understand correctly, anyone who lives in such a suburb who intends on harming someone would need to order a paper census in order to actually harm a census officer.

Of course, now I'm confused why so many officers are required. If it's letter box drops then why can't they just use the Australian Post service.

Good point. Maybe they have to visit everyone anyway?
We did ours online. Saves dealing with people. :p

As far as dealing with antsy people, you really need to look around. They are everywhere! Getting ruffled over absolutely nothing.

Are they still linking names to this census? If so, my whole family are going to be multimillionaire Jedi Knights from a galaxy, far far away...
