Am watching Eurovision here in Penzance and the Australian entry represented by Dami is way ahead half way through the jury vote. Boy they can drag it out.
Am watching from Douro valley and we just got pipped at the post by large vote from Russia for Ukraine. Go figure! Terrible song the winner. Peace and Love.......

One en suite from Christ knows what, to Dulux Berkshire White. In four years of this house I have now repainted every room at least once, except for the master bedroom and separate toilet. And I have no appetite to attack either of those.

I am certainly no master builder or handyman, but I sometimes despair at how cheaply elements of this house were put together. The en suite for example, was originally painted AFTER the fittings (mirror, towel rails, etc) were installed. They just painted around them. Ridiculous.

Despite the 15% increase in value since we bought it, I fear we will struggle to do well out of the sale when the time comes. All I can do is try to improve the improvable things as time and money allow.

Unfortunately the home builders usually pay the trades an absolute pittance for the work done. Hence the likelihood of quick slapdash work.

I know some of you are interested in my little project so here is an update.

Another week over and I think I have lost another ~1.5kg this week. I think that makes it ~13kgs since beginning April which exceeds my expectations. I now have ~12kgs more to lose to get under the magical 100kgs in 20 weeks for a very important milestone.

As an example today I have had ~920 calories and more than half of that was a huge ~400gm pork forequarter chop. Fried in a little canola and lemon juice it was delicious. I will soon have a lettuce salad and some grapes with fetta cheese for dinner and that should get me to ~1200 calories for the day and a huge win for me.

That's fantastic JohnK. Possibly a blessing in disguise that you missed your US trip as you may have consumed more than you really wanted to given the size of US portions.

That's a good point. One serve of In'N'Out would have been my weekly allowance. ;)

By the way tried to reply to your PM but inbox is full. Nothing urgent that can't wait. Thanks for your kind thoughts and support.

To generalise, "Sweet Potato" = "Pumpkin"; I have had some great [-]pimpkin[/-]Sweet Potato pie in my life.

It make more sense than Wasabi ... although that has it place ...

When at Japanese restaurants - my family shun me.

Whats wrong with mixing up a heaped teaspoon of wasabi with a teaspoon of soy sauce and pouring it over a plate of rice!

Didn't get the international meeting to Australia.
Not sure what was worse, having a new member country tell me the presentation had serious problem; or the vice president of the international association telling me Australia was too far to travel. Possibly the later because I gave the VP an ear full[SUP]*[/SUP].
Looking forward to not drinking $4 pints until 2am now that I'm back in Oz.

[SUP]* [/SUP]Surely only a coincidence that the plan to host the VP in Australia has been changed.

Wandered up to look at the Antonov that landed at PER this morning. Unfortunately, they swapped runway directions just 20 mins before the big bird arrived, so I had to rush from my careful chosen spot, and make do with a roadside stop on the GE Highway bypass.

But here's a question for the community:

The load was "just" a generator for a mining company. Curiously, the "mining company" has not been named in any item I have seen...

(more info here: Antonov An-225 Mriya – World’s largest aircraft, to visit Perth (UPDATED WITH LATEST INFO) | AviationWA )

I'm a project manager, and it would be an unusual circumstance for a generator to be on the critical path and need airlifting - let alone in the world's largest aeroplane.

Does anyone have an inkling why it needed to be rushed? Late in production? And opportunity to reap a bonus if it is commissioned early on site?

It just seems like a strange item to not have allowed time to be transported via ship.

Or perhaps flying was more logistically sensible.
Where was the generator made? Perhaps a number of transfers were required with the final ocean going option not available at point of manufacture.

I have just got home from a lovely weekend teaching an off-road driving course. Tallarook is a lovely part of Victoria that I would like to visit more often. Ten students worked together yesterday to absorb some unfamiliar concepts. We then spent today driving over some terrain they would not have considered possible 24 hours before. It was great to see how much could be achieved by everyone working together.

It is a shame that I have come home to so many subtle and not so subtle attacks on AFFers.

The Czech republic from what I read somewhere.

So Hamburg might be the nearest large ship port. Obviously, an oversized item. Trucking/Training to the nearest port with decent connections to Perth is probably going to be expensive or logistically challenging to impossible. Flying it seems like it might have been the least cost option overall.

There might be time constraints that required the airlift. :?:
