I was surprised to find myself on an A321-231 back to the coast. Hadn't noticed before, but do all JQ's seat buckles feature a motif of a bird or just on the A321?

IIRC the initial (all) JQ A321s were second hand. Thats probably why.

Edit: Manufactured 2000 and 2001

Edit 2: Yep, Spirit airline

I will be in London from the 23rd to the 28th of January if there are any other AFF"s there at the time who would like to meet up for an Australia day drink or two (dozen !) then maybe we can arrange something?.

Yeah, I should be around .... ;) Let me know closer to the date if you're still interested and we'll arrange something.

Greetings from Berlin!

I've now added QF009 to the list of AFF'ers I've caught up with in London... thanks QF009 for the catchup - and yep, Lantana does serve great coffee and food. I'll have to keep it in mind when I'm in that area of London again.

(Which reminds me, I still owe you a drink or two - I'll have to remember for next time.. don't let me forget!).

Good luck with the rest of the travels before heading home.

Yes indeed, thanks Mal for the fun day in London - brunch, Notting Hill, and the burgers. And I'd like to have it on record that Mal makes a fantastic shopping companion. ;) If you're in the area again, do check out Flat White a few blocks away on Berwick St - more Soho way than Fitzrovia (and Milk Bar around the corner which is owned by the same people); also serving up good ole Aussie coffee like Lantana and one of my regular soy latte stops in London. Beware of the Kiwi invasion over the weekends though. :p

And it was also nice catching up with D2 - always surreal but cool meeting people from home in another continent. :D

And in 10 years time I expect 3 out of 4 Minis will have departed the nest leaving us with 5 empty bedrooms, so we will likely be looking to downsize the energy consuming size of the abode.
At what age do you expect the minis to leave the nest? I have only just passed 21 years of age and I am still comfortable in the nest.

It certainly was odd to look down to my lap and see a bird on my buckle.
Some people have all the luck. ;)

Mini #1 I expect will gone within the year. He is actively seeking his independence. He may be back later, but he will want to go out on his own as soon as he can. Mini #2 is likely to stay at least another 2 years, likely 4. But if he is able to follow the career path he wishes, he will need to move away in that timeframe. Mini #3 still has 5 years of school and then university. So that is where I get the 10 year expectation.

My own sister was still at home long beyond the age I expect any of my own children to remain living with us. We will actively encourage them to make their own life. You say your are still comfortable in the nest, but you seem to spend more time living on your own in Brisbane than in the family next in Sydney, which is perfectly natural for someone working full time.

NM,

Unfortunately they keep coming back :!:

Our #2 daughter is back for a while. OK you say, OK I say, it's just the extra 3 kids and the husband that make it just that little bit harder and make the house suddenly feel too small :!:

I'm 44 and still live with Mummy. Yes it does sound weird and is weird.
I am her carer though so that negates the mummies boy tag to a point.

I do get $100 a fortnight and I thank all the tax payers out there for it.
People might mention nursing homes but I just couldn't go there.

Yeah, once someone goes into a nursing home, (esp. of a high care variety), they diminish pretty quickly. It's partially because of the company and lack of stimulus they have there, but also other reasons too.

Ahh ye, we did that to Mrs NM's parents for about 15 months. They had a 3 bedroom house and we brought in two adults and 3 kids for a period. but I don't see us maintaining a 6 bedroom home in 10 years time. We will likely always maintain one or two additional rooms for "visitors". But I expect our subsequent home purchases will have less floor space from this point forward. I think we have peaked our floor-space/bedroom-count requirements.

Of course that is not to say we won't stay where we are for an extended period.

Currently in the HKG Wing F lounge.

The cabanas were available so had a long soak in the bath whilst reading a book. Been a long time since I did that (or rather, was able to do that, what with Australia and water restrictions).

There is a ton of good food here! Haven't had cold soba in a while - what a treat, and they even serve it on ice for effect. I think I will be quite full after doing the lounge tour de Hong Kong Airport.

Not even one lounge down... ten hours to go....

I'm sure your fellow passengers will be grateful then.:p

I am extremely uncomfortable, and depressed, on my own in Brisbane. I would prefer to be back home in Sydney with my parents but unfortunately there are debts that need to be paid so I will try to put up with this lifestyle for a little while longer.

You know if you ever want to catch up for a beer, just send a PM. And if you end up at the casino (on the coast) I’m just up the road, and recently restocked the fridge! ;)

Well, just did the lounge tour of HKG, with the exception of the JL Sakura Lounge (at Gate 40), which I missed out because I mistimed (they close at 1630h).

Although I'll elaborate in a TR, quickly IMO I'd rank the oneworld lounges at HKG as follows:
  1. CX Wing - nice and open, whether it is a lot of space or not is a different thing but the openness does help. Cabanas are great.
  2. CX Pier - not as good as the Wing since it is not open like the Wing. Day rooms are severely overrated. Feels a lot smaller than the Wing.
  3. QF/BA The Hong Kong Lounge - don't know what it was like pre-renovations, but it looks quite presentable with the familiar QF lounge decor and colours. Food is not as good as CX, but very comparable if not better than QF J domestic lounges. Nice showers.
  4. KA G16 Lounge. A small lounge with nice ambience due to openness. Not as extensive a bar or buffet, and no showers.

Just under T-60 now. Sitting in the Wing preparing some last minute faxes, which means a long trek for me to get to Gate 71 for my flight!
