The totally off-topic thread

Everytime I read your posts on Toodyay I think of "toot yai".

I know. Don't go too far off-topic....

That was a bad word in our house, when my Grandmother died, my Mother and one of my Aunties was sent to boarding school in Toodyay, quite a trip down from Broome for two young girls in the late nineteen thirties.

Both of them hated it and rarely talked about their experiences there. I believe it was run by the 'Sisters of Mercy', however mum said they were anything but!

I don't agree that they're over priced, it all depends on the item. But happy to accept your view, with the note that pricing matching should over come the issue.

Clothes can be pretty exxy at Myers, especially off sale. We're talking a least $50 for a business shirt or even a polo.

Granted, I could conclude that either or both of the branding and the production quality are commensurate to the price. Then again, sometimes it's better just to go to the DFO or some other shops.

Suits and suit sets also come to mind, clocking in at really high prices, but granted some of them are cut very well. From ten metres away there's probably no difference; it would take someone with sharp tailor wit to tell the difference between a decent cheap suit and one of immaculate construction within thirty seconds.

Now if you have that kind of money, fair enough.

I saw this on another forum's joke thread, and thought it funny initially to repost here and maybe somewhere else.

But then I thought, wait a minute, this really isn't that sinister. Couldn't you just use the Search function?

We don't need to agree. Cost is relative.

I see a business shirt at Myer for $89. My business shirts are all <$40 from Big W/Lowes. We might argue here all day the quality is not the same but those Big W/Lowes business shirts last me 7-8 years and I am extremely happy with the quality.

Myer is overpriced or sells expensive brands but I don't care about brand. I care about look and price which I have already for less than half the price.

But thanks for the price matching tip.

Well that was cathartic. I just wrote a long but factual letter to the Rheumatologist. He probably will throw it in the bin. I don't care. I will send it tomorrow. I will read it to my GP when I return from Queensland. And hope to get some closure on all this. Shouldn't be this hard.
May I suggest a judicious use of the CC line? It may have more effect that way.

Yep, and I'm currently wearing $160 trousers from Myer that are beautiful, and comfortable if I stand up. But when I sit down they make me go mad with discomfort.

$50 for a business shirt is a great price. In terms of longevity I'm still wearing one of dad's business shirts and he's been gone for 12 years. I stopped wearing the suits I got from Myer after about 2 years, didn't help that I kill the trousers really quickly. My Hugo Boss suit vastly better than the Myer suits and the tailored suits I got in Singapore. But it's reserved for weddings, funerals and conferences. After 9 years the trousers are showing the first signs death.

A final comment about lowes, I go to lowes when I want ruggers for yard shorts. Business shirts need to be as much cotton as possible for me. Cheap polyester shirts are just going to end up stinking of stale sweat on me.

I'm currently wearing lots of Van Heusen business shirts, 60% cotton and obtained on sale from the DFO shop at $25 apiece. Great designs; main issue is that all of them have no breast pockets.

I used to wear a lot of Rivers business shirts as well, and still do to a degree. They seem to tend towards the thinner side (fabric thickness), however.

The cheaper ones from Target and so on have the main weakness that the material is so thin it is see through. As a fatter man that's not very flattering; more so in winter if you wear a singlet or undershirt.

Exceptions are, of course, if you wear a jacket or pullover all day, which hides many sorts of shirt sins.

Not if he's really clever and renamed the project :p

You could just search for *.* as a start. You could even the take all the resulting files from that search then copy them into a new folder.

I'm sure there are also (free) ways of searching the contents of files (e.g. Word documents) for specific contents.

Now if the "loving brother" could scramble that all up in a way that made all of those solutions unhelpful, then that would really be devious, but at the same time incredibly painful (more than $20) to set up. You'd be better off whisking it to a hidden e-space and deleting what was there. Maybe put the project on a USB drive, delete the original then hide the USB drive, perhaps with a list of cryptic clues to get there.

Yes, I realise that's not very original nor funny...

I suppose one way to be really evil but not impossible to recover is to use some sort of encoding method to mess up the contents of the resulting files, e.g. base64 or some BS like that. You could also, say, use a program like 7-zip to zip up the files but split them into equal sub-archives, then rename the archives as regular files, so they look like a .docx or .xlsx but in fact don't work at all - to recover, you would need to rename each file to its correct archive name in sequence and then unzip.

Myer can have some very good %off sales or clearance sales. If you can wait until one of these sales you may do alright.

Yeah but if you're happy with what you have which is costing you less already why bother? I don't bother ever looking at Myer, because I know I can buy what I need elsewhere for less.

Otherwise I would be giving Myer money for the sake of saying I gave Myer money.

You are really bad.
I did also throw in the line that he had spoken of the earlier patient. That is probably the only thing that might make him pause.

Interested to read how expensive Myer is. In comparison to some of the shops here, their prices are downright bargain basement. In fact, I often do not shop there as they have a whole range of their own label/brands which tend to be on the cheap and nasty side. They are the same price as everywhere else for the named ranges but almost all of those are made in China anyway. I must admit DJs has gone that path as well with Studio W rubbish. There are a few stores that do have Australian made clothing which I like.

In Cairns I picked up one Reserve shirt sleeve shirt for $5!

Original price was over $40.

I'll have to keep an eye out for sales at Myer but as I don't shop at Myer that's not that easy thing to do.

Ive found Costo shirts fantastic. $24 each. Makes a changes from Geoffrey Bean @$90!

Meh .. I wait for the $10 shirt sales at Aldi and queue up in the AM with the other price concious dudes ... go in and stock up ...
