The totally off-topic thread

Haven't seen the rugby, hopefully skipped the spoilers.
Had to partee in Adelaide. Heard no end of Port this, crows that... How many times did I have to tell people I support Fitzroy!

Thank goodness Arnotts kept the old recipe.

The bigger issue is probably the old machine not the old recipe. Once that old making machine is dead look out. What's the bet they made the guy who can fix it redundant?

I was there only 1 month ago! Could I be infected? ;)

Are you writing from the other side?

Have just discovered a rather disturbing nexus. For some months after dinner have been subject to feeling like I have a very mild fever, accompanied by a negligible temp rise and a florid complexion, even after only minimal wine consumption.

Now believe that this is caused by even very small amounts of alcohol, as little as 20 ml of scotch or less than 1 glass of wine. Don't know what the underlying cause is but this is tragedy considering my large and full wine fridges.

Will have to see if my doc can tweak whatever is wrong on return to Oz.

So I'm on a very dry holiday - not happy. :(

Seems we may now have an answer to what has been causing my lack of body temperature control.

Since returning home have now had lots of blood tests chest xray and CT scans, which have concluded on Friday with reports describing

'a mass measuring 16.6cm long by 10cm transverse by 7.5 cm replacing almost the entire right kidney, with a presence of speckled calcification within the mass suggesting renal cell malignancy.'

"Three pulmonary nodules as described are most likely metastatic.'

Looks like I could have an interesting time ahead.

I guess the lesson is that if you report to your GP, as I did that, you don't feel as well as you think you ought, and nothing is done, then its time to change your GP, so If you have, or know of anyone exhibiting mild chronic symptoms get them to see a doc and have tests until a cause is found and resolution is initiated.

Interestingly my blood test results have (for the last 4 years) a comment saying.

'An eGFR between 60-89 ml/min/1.73m2 (mine was) does not exclude the presence of chronic kidney disease. Follow-up may be indicated. Refer to Kidney Health Australia | Kidney Health Australia'

So why was only the step mother charged? Does she actually have custody? I doubt it.

I think - and I have no real insider info - that the father was away for work, and she decided to go on a little shopping jaunt.
No suggestion right now that he was at fault in any way.

Sadly we pay health (and other professionals) to apply their expertise to the situations we find ourselves in.

So the West Coast Eagles showed how they could go a full quarter without scoring in the AFL. May not have been a record the fans wanted at a home game. Probably will help us get cheaper tickets at the new stadium in Perth for AFL footy.
We have 10 Eagles seats and 6 Dockers seats so the new seats may not end up too pricey.

Sorry to hear of the news, and best of luck with the oncologists and biopsy.

As a note- every kidney blood test says that. The assumption is that in doing the test you are looking for something (based on presenting symptoms). That's why I don't do them, and generally suspect any doctor who orders routine "yearly tests" to be a fool. Med students aren't taught enough that tests cost money and many are useless without taking into account pretest probability.

Anyway, I hope that you get through this with relative ease.

Now rogerkambah best wishes with your journey back to health and happiness. My 2 weeks of getting poked and prodded 20 years ago had a great outcome and I was lucky I was born in 1949 rather than 1929. My unwritten lifetime warranty has not expired.

I think this is wishful thinking on your part cove. The league is not known for its philanthropy and interest in the budget of fans.
As for the Eagles, I still don't know why I didn't stick with my mid-week prediction of the Crows to win.
West Coast can be pretty impressive at times, but they are at heart a very ordinary side.

Apparently microbes superbugs found in all five of Rios beaches including Copacabana

Thinking of you and your path over the next few months. Not an easy time but hopefully you will be back in the air soon. If you ever need anything don't hesitate to PM me (though not a medico at all).
Will you have treatment here or in Sydney?

Cove what happened to those West Coast Eagles, they were leading at 3/4 time and then just did a Fremantle and forgot how to play, or is it a case if Fremantle win a game then West Coast can lose.

I attended the Brisbane/Fremantle game and after a slow start Fremantle got going and smashed Brisbane, Brisbane were terrible glad I wasn't supporting them that night.

RogerK best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Sad news out of the US with 50 killed in a night club shooting, I can't see the US changing the gun laws until a president or law makers family gets killed in a mass shooting, very sad. :(

And in other sad news, Queensland is at work this Monday morning.
