I really need NM's perspective on things in life, but here's my take:

I'm sure somewhere in the world there is a flat called "Earth", therefore the "Earth" could be a "flat".

There is also probably a pub called "Earth" somewhere in the world, and during the night, several patrons will experience a spinning sensation. Their world will spin around and around.

So therefore Earth can be both flat and round.

That's my lame explanation for the moment.
Mal,

It is time to go back and have another drink :!:

Some hotels really are efficient with their guest feedback.I have stayed at the Waldorf Astoria once and the Waldorf Towers once. After both visits I have left uncomplimentary comments. After the Towers visit i ended up writing them a letter with a copy to Hilton HQ saying the stay had convinced me to switch to SPG-which I did.
So today I get an email inviting me to be a "Waldorf insider".Surely they could edit their email lists.

Maybe the day will come when we dont want to advertise our FF status.Just saw this-
Move Considered To Curb Airline Demand

http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/#d As if higher fares, check baggage fees, packed airplanes, and ever-eroding service weren't doing enough to curb airline demand on their own, the British chairman of the Government's Committee on Climate Change has floated an idea that frequent flyers in the UK should be charged higher taxes than those who fly occasionally. Lord Adair Turner, the Committee Chair, unveiled the idea as one of several suggestions for restricting the growth of airline demand to no more than 60 percent over the next 40 years.

Maybe they will want to ban sites like AFF for promoting air travel.

In SYD now, for the next 6 minutes and about to get home... Cant wait as i ahve a shiny new iMac waiting for me to unbox! Talk about tease - i went away Monday night, it was delivered Tuesday... I think they saw my travel plans and decided that they would deliver it then! Anywho - i cant wait for 27 inches of more than high defness goodies!

There are some real fruitcakes in very high positions. One does wonder how Lord Adair Turner went to the CCC - what was his carbon reducing way of travelling? Or has he got a jet parked somewhere nearby like > 130 attendees. Is he car pooling at the conference, or using one of the several 1000's of limo's brought in to ferry the attendees around.

Climate change is a lovely political football being played with by certain people for their own financial and personal interests. And as usual, the "jet set" of people who fly everywhere are one of the targets <again>.

I think the Lord should look at the figures a little closer. What about owning multiple cars, or gas guzzlers like hummers?

I can’t imagine his idea would ever be considered, half the government would be up in arms!

I presume you waited for the quad-core i7 to ship if you’re only getting it now? Hope you filled it with RAM (or are planning to) and chose the best options for it.

You’ll also get to play with that new Magic Mouse… I can’t wait for Christmas Day to get ahold of one myself.

I was going to but then figured I really didn't need that much grunt. What happened was that I picked up my first ever Mac Wednesday before last and it had a dead screen. Took it back on Thursday, hoping to just swap it for a working one but of course that's not how apple work is it???? Had to wait until there DOA procedures were done and a new one delivered Tuesday morning, precisely 15 hrs after I left for a week! So they delivered to my house yesterday and we were united a few hrs ago. I still haven't unboxed it yet as I thought I would give the wife some attention and then give the Mac my attention tommorow. She has to go out anyway so it's perfect! Expect most of my posts now to be completely concerned with Macs!

At least you have your priorities right - unlike many Mac fan-bois! :)

Congrats plastic you just took this thread past the infamous Amex thread.Time for you to crack open a bottle of bubbly.

Woohoo! No bubbly though - I've got a choice of Heineken or Tsingtao in the minibar :(

It probably is sad to mention that I have 2 bottles of Champers sitting in my bedroom. Best place to store them I think. Not that I'm there now (out in a little town called Worthing having a look around today).

In other news - only 2 weeks until I've been in the UK for 6 months. Wow, time does go quickly. Pity the employment front hasn't moved that fast!

Worthing, hey? Careful, you may fall asleep as you walk round! It's many a year since I was last there, I remember the pier but little else. Enjoy your champers when you get back.

Don't worry, the town hasn't improved much since you were here! coughpy beach (not that a beach counts in mid Dec in the UK), a pier, several streets of shopping but not much else of note.

Oh, and there are some very overpriced pubs as well. Paying 3.30 pounds for a Fosters outside of London is almost criminal. Let alone paying 3.40 pounds for a Corona.

I must admit I really cannot remember anything exceptional about Worthing, except the pier which was opened just about the time Noah was seen wandering around saying "Hmmm, looks like it might rain".

UK beaches in December are fine - so long as frostbite is your aim!
And as for 3 quid for a coughpy beer, ouch! And there was me griping about lifting a small can of Heineken out of the minibar for 20RMB!
