And as for 3 quid for a coughpy beer, ouch! And there was me griping about lifting a small can of Heineken out of the minibar for 20RMB!

One of my (many) locals sells pints of Carlesburg for 1.99 pounds and Guiness for 2.25 pounds which are good prices.

In London, I'm yet to find a place that sells a pint of Fosters (my preferred pub tipple btw) for more than 3.50 pounds. Average prices in London vary from 2.80 pounds to 3.30 pounds.

My record outside of London was Fosters for 1.50 pounds during a specials hour, although I have seen 1.99 pounds for Fosters as well as some other prices in the early 2 pound mark.

The record for cheap Corona for me was 1.50 pounds in Croyford.

I also drink local ales (which are normally a lot cheaper than mass produced beers), but do prefer the mass produced ones as I can never be sure what the local ones will taste like.

I paid £4.20 for a pint of Fosters at a pub in Biggin Hill during the air show last year.

A lot of beers in Perth pubs are $8-9.. that's what happens when you don't have any poker machines to subsidise the beer!

Worst I've had was at the Sofitel Hyland in Shanghai. Paid (ahem, company paid) 115RMB (AU$18) for a single beer!

Thankfully the boss didn't bat an eyelid.

Definitely no pokie machines there either ;)

Nope, probably more related to the higher average disposable income due to mining.

I'd be interested in how much beer costs in Mackay, Mt Isa, Emerald and other mining base towns.

Ouch. That is criminal... Apparently beer in the UK consists of about 30% tax. Can't recall the amount in Australia, but believe it's similar.

Have been in Mt.Isa and Mackay.Beer and wine prices reasonable.at restaurants beers $5-$6.50.
In Mackay food prices are high.not too bad in the Isa.

Well I have found a pub which sells Fosters for £1.49 all day, every day.

It's a pity the pub is over 50Km from my place. A return train trip costs £11, plus about £2.20 in tube fares, so I would have to drink a *lot* of Fosters to make the trip worthwhile on a regular basis.

Perhaps they have a pub closer to home with the same pricing - they're a national chain of pubs. I doubt any pub in Australia could match that pricing.

Then again, some people would comment that the price for Fosters is £1.49 too much !

It somewhat less than that: (Schedule - (28 August 2009))
  • Beer exceeding 3.5% by volume of alcohol packaged in an individual container not exceeding 48 litres:
    • $41.06 per litre of alcohol calculated on that alcohol content by which the percentage by volume of alcohol of the goods exceeds 1.15
e.g. a 375ml Can of 5% by volume of alcohol "beer" has a total tax (GST & Excise) of:

1.1 x (0.375 x ((5 - 1.15) / 100) x $41.06) = 65¢

Does anyone know what the "Medical Emergency" was at MEL yesterday?

We pushed back ontime @ 1903 (2 mins early!) and then got stuck waiting until 1945 to take off. Copilot initially told us only one runway operating due to wind conditions and ten minute wait, but after 15mins he came back on and said there was a "medical ememrgency flight" (was what atc told him) inbound and takeoffs were on hold. We were second in queue, and after a QF 738 landed, we were off. He commented he'd never seen the queue at MEL that bad - by the time we left, there were at least another dozen aircraft waiting for takeoff.

Anyone got any info?

Is really tired after getting up at 12:30am Brisbane time to catch a flight at 5:50am from Auckland. I need an afternoon nanna nap?

Ok I did not wake up as early as you but after having a huge day yesterday (Social Golf Club Presentation) and flying up to Brisbane this morning I am very tired.

Trying to head off to work now as I cannot afford a day off work with no annual leave days or sick days remaining. :(

Only thing nicer than flying First Class, is finishing uni with First Class Honours. :D:D

I don't feel so guilty caving in and buying a Louis Vuitton Damier Graphite Tadao , with shoes to match, after all as I can now think of it all as a reward...

Seems like uni is trying to suck me back in though.... "if you ever get bored of work, feel free to discuss with us about doing a PhD." Uhh I'd rather shoot myself than set foot upon another library!

Well done, QF009, quite an achievement. Now that you have been subverted by the real world and income, they'll have ahard time getting you back, I'm sure

I presume an RFDS flight, Air Ambulance or similar....they don't announce them, so unless you were on it we'll probably never know....
