The totally off-topic thread

Was anyone but me aware of the 747 cargo plane that crashed on takeoff from MEL this morning? Good - considering it was an exercise involving multiple fire services, police and ambulance.

Quite the spectacle. And I got to stand back and watch. :)

It is not often we get to see the various emergency services working together on this sort of scale, so it is reassuring to know they can.

There was a similar event in SYD recently. I wasn't there but some colleagues were and similarly impressed by the response.

I spoke to some who were involved in the simulated plane crash at Barangaroo, and they said it was very useful, but not long enough to really explore all the issues from such a major event. They would like to see a 24hr exercise at some time in the future.

I heard similar thoughts OATEK.

Picked up a hire car in BNE earlier in the week and was told that it was illegal to have golf clubs or luggage in the back seat as they are classed as a projectile and can go through the windscreen. One of the staff said he recently copped an $850 fine.

If this is indeed the case this is serious hogwash. I have been putting golf clubs and luggage on the back seat for a long time. There is no way golf clubs lying on the back seat will go through the windscreen. Ever and if they have it's a freakish accident.

Why are we taking the lowest common denominator approach to everything?

Well that proves my prediction is right. :p

Actually, both of you are exhibiting second life behaviours since the original "The Game of Life", (known as "Life"), a cellular automaton, was devised by the British mathematician John Horton Conway in 1970 and featured in Martin Gardner's fabulous columns in Scientific American in October 1970. I remember it well! I coded it for a Date General Nova 840 in 1970 and Commode Pet 2001 some 8 years later. One can plait if for hours and and hours.:) "Youse" should try it!

So what is the topic of this thread - Who's boil is about to burst, and cryptic facebook comments? (on that later for someone who does "DO" facebook they've certainly an expert at facebook style posts.

Oi - Mods - can we have an all things Medical thread?

You are always free to start your own thread. Find the button called create new thread, click it...

You sure as hell don't need a mod to do it for you.

I used to like Hungry Jacks - have it maybe once a month. But have had it twice now in that time from two different stores and burgers have been awful.

Feel free to leave medhead.

I didn't realise I could move posts to another thread though. ;)

As far as moving posts goes, not only is that something only a mod can do, but logistically it probably works out easier for them to create the target thread in the first place rather than moving and merging, which might do something odd to the sequencing.

All this starts with either a mod noticing or a post report. I think the mods haven't been as fast off the mark in moving subthreads off TOTT into new threads, compared to before (splitting off maths, grammar, cats and household appliances).

The main headache will be for a mod to extract only the relevant, related posts; for medical, that's very broad, and has posts spanning back months (not the same subthreads, but certainly medical related).
