Today is Tuesday, part of the Americas are on Monday, 13 September 2016,

Tuesday the 2nd day of the working week for most countries and the 257th of the year as its a leap year.

I better also wish you congratulations, I almost don't believe it, married and a dad, thought it would never happen, wow.

Hopefully the Americas are on Monday 12 September :p

You thought it would never happen? :p

You know what I mean, for a long while you seem to suggest that it couldn't happen but then things change so anything is possible.

Hopefully the Americas are on Monday 12 September :p

Editing and re-editing a post, you too know what I meant, as John was in Thailand well it was Tuesday but I knew some smartalect would want to tell us it was still Monday in the US.

Joke Joyce. :p

In a theatre to see Sully. A quiet 12.15pm session. There are 7 people so far in a large theatre. And someone decided they will sit directly behind me. Sigh. So maybe 12 people now. And a couple of old women have sat down right next to me and one of them is deaf. The other a talker.

My 5th form teacher was a Mr Joyce and we used to enjoy the joke on his name. I don't think he actually had a sense of humour. I know we were waiting with baited breath for him to explain the reproductive cycle in the Biol course. He told us to read the relevant chapter after spending the whole lesson getting embarrassed about plant reproduction.:)

I'd just get up and move. Who cares if you offend them a little? They'll get over it.

I have no hesitation in telling people to shut up at the cinema and theatre. I'm there to watch and listen to others, not them.

If they can't behave regardless of their age I'm complaining!

It wouldve still been Monday in the US, just not the 13th.

They're probably complaining about the person on their phone in the theatre....

Nope. Lights were still on - they forgot to turn them off. Even though I was in the middle of the row and up high, no one closer seemed to want to go tell 'front desk' to turn them off. So I ended up missing the first few minutes of the movie Sully :(

Cleaner came rushing in to say she forgot to switch off the cleaning light.

Of course as I groped my way back in the dark everyone in range thanked me. In particular the guy behind me. But just wondering what happened in the first few minutes now..... Fantastic movie btw.

Does anyone know what day it is today? I've lost track of time.

Today is, or at least would have been, dad's 70th birthday. A strange day for us really. There's a bottle of cognac he had been saving for several years for the occasion.
Mum talked about opening it for a tipple in his honour, but I am not so sure I am up for it.

On the plus side it looks like we've sold the house. Just a matter of signing the paperwork. Not really getting the true value of the block due to the market, but that's just part of the cycle. Things wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't deferred years worth of council and water rates because of dad's disability.
Left us with crazy bills to pay, on top of their leftover mortgage. But it looks like we might have found a little place for mum which will suit her for a few years at least.

Birthdays and other special days are always hard when a loved one is not there. It does get a little easier over time I have found.

Good news that you have found a suitable place for your Mum, hopefully close to family and friends.

Not been a wonderful day here. I was out early and got back to a phone message from my mother telling me that a cousin's son had died suddenly in Thailand where he had been working. He was only 55. I hadn't seen him for ages but he would always call in and see Mum whenever he was in Leongatha. That was followed by the news that our next door neighbour has just been diagnosed with Alzheimers though it has been coming on for a while.
And the share market is down.

Your father was then 3 months older than me.Of a generation that do save things for special occasions. With me vintage port.
So my guess is your father would really have wanted family and friends to have that tipple.

i was at the theatre once. the two chappies next to me would have a little chat every now and then. below normal talking volume but above a whisper. it was annoying.

'shhhh' I hissed and 'please be quiet!!!'

when the lights came on at interval the man next to me apologised and explained he had been describing the scene changes and costumes to his friend. who was blind.

i tend to be a little more cautious that acting 'without hesitation' these days.

After investigating my mother's Telstra home phone bill, despite her pension card being registered years ago she wasn't receiving any pension discounts...

The outsourced Telstra rep was apologetic and gave my mother a whopping $10 credit.

I also changed her plan to a slightly more expensive plan, but which also includes free local calls. So hopefully the quarterly bill goes from $150-$200 to about $120.

A couple snips from another thread:
Saw Neil perry in LAX getting on my Qantas flight back to Sydney, in July
I hope they force fed him a plane load of green leaves that he calls a SALAD !
What is it with all these 'flogs' masquerading as world renowned chefs and their 'new age cuisine' where they think serving up a bowls of weeds on flts is acceptable? The same weeds that gazillions of genuine hard working Australian farmers have spent decades spraying and spraying to eradicate so decent fodder can grow?

Certainly not confined to QF - SQ have taken to serving certain 'salads' consisting of a few bull rushes and little else on some flts - give me a break!

Ever tried the Oporto salad? Over $10 and consists of two chicken tenders, a large spoonful of rice and a huge mess of salad leaves. Would have been much better leaving out the salad leaves so I could get the taste of the rice as it was flung all over the salad and way too much green for me.

Sorry to hear that - the sharemarket will recover, but the other two are very sad.

I agree - I love salads, but am bored witless with Qantas' leaf salads and don't get me started on their noodle and quinoa ones :(. Not that I dislike either of those, but it is just not a salad!
