The totally off-topic thread

Ewww, sounds awful. Large groups of any nationality can be a bit bogan and something I try desperately to avoid, unlike my brother who tends to travel in a group.....not for this little black duck. I have travelled with SIL and nephew once or twice but never again. Painful in the extreme.

The UK has their version too, the "lad" trips.

Always funny seeing them on stag weekends away boarding LCC all dressed up as Wally.

As Wally or as a bunch of wallies?

It's even funnier when a whole bunch of them get kicked off the plane for boorish behaviour - not so funny when that boorish behaviour has resulted in assault of the crew and then they get off the hook for it.

Having recently discussed bali as a holiday destination, I am surprised that it is not quite as polarazing a destination as before. In the old days people either loved it or really hated it.

In the past year or so, I don't sense that strong negativity to the place, in fact some put in or a par with Vietnam.

So any thoughts as to the transformation of this idyllic island paradise ?

I love parts of Bali and hate parts of Bali. Just arrived back last night from Bali.

With so many places on the planet to visit, I reckon I shall manage to avoid it.

The where is Waldo's Kind.

And they wouldn't even notice you were so everyone is happy.
They wouldn't notice me? That'd be hard to do considering my size.

Large groups of bogans anywhere is not good. They walk along in sixes and sevens in a pathway that hardly fits 2 people and decide to stop and yell at one another about what I have no idea. For crying out loud there are other people other than you around and they cannot predict your stupidity.

And just like bogans they walk around like they own the place. Hoping this is the last trip I encounter them as it is back to Pattaya from next trip.

Totally disagree - we spent 10nts in Bali over Xmas last year at Double 6 in Seminyak - SPECTACULAR - Seminyak and Legian endowed with multitudes of quality restaurants - from ultra cheap to pricey with many accessible by foot. Cruiserette breaking her neck to get back there again this year but prolly my turn to stay in Oz and 'baby sit' business whilst al others on holidays - but we might still get back there anyway.

I'm pleased you enjoy it. Just not for us. YMMV:)

Last weekend seemed like a weekend of fairytales.

On Saturday, Western Bulldogs won the AFL, first time in 62 years.

On Sunday, Cronulla won the NRL, first time ever after being in the competition for 49 years, I hope Fremantle don't take that long.

And Brisbane now has a rail line to Redcliffe Peninsula, that only took 126 years.
Interesting a few years ago, Queensland amalgamated 3 local council areas Redcliffe City, Pine Rivers Shire and Caboolture Shire to form Moreton Bay Regional council.
Surprising what can be done once everyone is on the same team. The new train line branches off from Petrie Station on the Caboolture line, with the 6 new stations of 12.6kms which end up at Kippa Ring.

We really need a "Luggage" dedicated discussion thread.

We have one for super, health, cats and football - why not handbags and luggage?

Im still undecided.

Do I finally turn to the hardside suitcase (Lojel, American Tourister or Antler) or do I stick to my Kathmandu cargo trolley bag/been around the world quite a few times in 10yrs and only just dying now.

Its doing my head in

Dangerously ON-TOPIC.

I don't mind Bali. It is a beautiful part of the world. Good food, friendly people, beautiful beaches, etc...

Like a lot of places, it depends where you go. If you don't like tourist ghettos, then don't go to Kuta, and all those night clubs. You might as well be going out to a club in OZ (although Bali has cheaper drinks and fewer clothes).

In a similar light, I remember someone decrying Bangkok as a destination based on Khao San Road alone. I haven't been to KSR for many years, but doubt its changed. Full of Aussie / English / etc backpackers who think they are cool, and various operations aimed at separating those backpackers from their baht.

Later in the year we are staying in a serviced apartment in Bangkok.Just reading the the TA reviews and the terrible ones are hilarious. One gave it a terrible rating because they only got 3 litres of bottled water complimentary every day when his family required 20 litres a day.
