The totally off-topic thread

Later in the year we are staying in a serviced apartment in Bangkok.Just reading the the TA reviews and the terrible ones are hilarious. One gave it a terrible rating because they only got 3 litres of bottled water complimentary every day when his family required 20 litres a day.

Negative reviews can be rather amusing

I love reading the negative reveiws on Tripadvisor - its a must before I read any of the positives.

I recall once a tour operator in Singapore and it was similar to, "We arrived late for our tour and they left without us!".

My negatives are usually about the room (unclean or broken) or the food.

We really need a "Luggage" dedicated discussion thread.

We have one for super, health, cats and football - why not handbags and luggage?

Im still undecided.

Do I finally turn to the hardside suitcase (Lojel, American Tourister or Antler) or do I stick to my Kathmandu cargo trolley bag/been around the world quite a few times in 10yrs and only just dying now.

Its doing my head in
Have you had a look at Crumpler? It is Australian made and I don't think any more expensive than the other brands and we really like the design (although I would avoid the see through one!).

We have done a heap of travelling with ours and holding up really well - they do mark a bit, but no damage.

I personally find TripAdvisor a bit unreliable.

All reviews should be read with a "grain of salt", but a review of very negative and very positive reviews should let you know any major flaws or strengths.

I find the FlyerTalk "Master Threads" are often more informative and relevant to the way many AFFers travel.

Was that water, or milk to bathe in?

My laptop totes are Crumplier - love them but I got last seasons so on sale (Belle I think by memory).

Had to get two, one for just the laptop for day to day stuff and another is a bigger tote for when I have chargers/files ect.

Yes Mr FM likes them for various camera bags, which is why we looked at the luggage. :)

In a similar light, I remember someone decrying Bangkok as a destination based on Khao San Road alone. I haven't been to KSR for many years, but doubt its changed. Full of Aussie / English / etc backpackers who think they are cool, and various operations aimed at separating those backpackers from their baht.
Bangkok can be quite bad.

It gets harder and harder by the day but when I am on holidays I try to avoid backpackers, bogans and bus tour groups. That way I ensure my holiday is not spoilt by selfish people who think they are cool, regardless of age, and the world revolves around them.

I went on a Kontiki tour in 1994 with mainly teenagers and a Cosmos tour in 2007 with adults. These were civilised tour groups. The tour groups I encounter now are disgusting. And yes I do realise that is a biased point of view but I will do my best to avoid them.

Everyone has a "pet " group they like to avoid on holidays. Mine is Captains Choice group.

Our largest market gardens have been flooded. They were settled on alluvial plains. Guess the river systems are reclaiming them.

Bogans or just idiots, one of them definitely should have known better.

Being drunk is not a valid excuse imo. Oh the joys of being a consular officer and having to deal with cough like this!

Imagine how our media would react especially the likes of the 'tele' if foreigners did this to our flag at the Australian G.P.
Police are on the look out for nine endangered animals thought to be a common species of Australian budgerigar thought to like warm enclosures. Often seen with two oddballs, they are wanted for questioning on a range of issues.

Watching Australias Next Top Model and I weep for the younger generation.

Judge: Today, you will be modelling

Girls: Sqqueeeeelllllllll. Im SOOO shocked!

Judge: Tomorrow you will be having photos done

Girls: Sqeueeeeelllllllll. I wasnt expecting that!

Why are they so surprised? Did they sign up for The Block and found themselves here by accident?
